Not sure what you mean by "tacking" stitch. Are the stitches exceedingly long like a basting stitch? That would need a stitch length adjustment so stitches are closer together.

Or, do you mean the tension is loose between stitches? You can try tightening the top tension to see if that helps. (Be sure to ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading the top thread so the thread will seat completely in the tension disk or you may end up with lots of top thread showing under the fabric.) If the bobbin thread is too loose, you may need to adjust its tension.

Understanding Thread Tension Threads

It means, cast on 2 sts as you begin the next row.

Starting with 38 stitches, you should end up with 52:
5 + 2(14) + 5 = 38 after increasing on every other of the center 28,
5 + 3(14) + 5 = 52
However, if you start with 37 stitches, you should end up with 50:
5 + 2(13) + 1 + 5 = 37. after increasing on every other of the center 26,
5 + 3(13) + 1 + 5 = 50

it be a two person job but try putting machine in zig-zag reverse action , and have second person feed material from back of machine instead of front strat stitch 1/2 inch in from end this would make right -left zig-zag instead of left -right stitch , also on custom program machines (high end) a special stich could be set for this to go from front if your needing to do this frequently .

try these suggestions
Reduce the stitch length to zero. The machine will stitch in place and form a locked stitch
1) rotate the material and sew over the same stitching. Leave the needle down in the work and raise the presser foot, then turn the fabric around.
2) decrease the stitch length to very small for a few stitches

OR
3) hold the fabric and prevent it from feeding at the beginning and end of a seam, which makes very short stitches

4) stitch about 1/2", raise the needle and presser foot, return the fabric to the beginning position and stitch over the first half inch of seam again. Do the same at the end

I believe it means a 4 stitch cable or a stitch made with 4 threads. I found this on a knitting website and it might help:

"A 4-stitch cable will be made with 4 stitches, a 6-stitch cable with 6 stitches and so on. Most of the time these sets of stitches are divided equally.
For the 4-stitch cable the first 2 stitches are slipped purlwise onto a cable needle or double pointed needle whichever you prefer. You will knit the next two stitches on your left needle, and then knit the two stitches from the cable needle. The knitting stitches are crossed over each other and you have created a nice little cable stitch."

Measure the button, mark the size of hole you want with a pin at each end. sew 6 full width very close zigzag stitches at one end ending on left side , then sew down to the other end with needle in left position with #2 width stitches, at other end again sew 6 full width zigzag stitches finishing on right side, turn work right around and sew back to other end again with #2 width stitches.
you should now have a rectangle of very close stitches with a very narrow gap between them down the middle. carefully cut between the stitches and you have a button hole.
