Fuel leaking into crankcase on 2001 Honda CBR 600 F4i, Bike sat for 3 years tank had rusted religned inside of tank and changed fuel pump however when religning tank i filled vent tube so the tank didn't vent. Now I have gas leaking down into crankcase. I need to know where it would be coming from Thank You

Would that also be true about maybe a stuck injector or do you think I could have blown some kind of seal or something from starting the bike with out the tank being able to vent?

  • donaldbengli Jul 22, 2009

Yeah fuel pump is electric. I rode it a little bit(10 miles or so) before realizing the tank wasn't venting. I thought it was just kind of running poorly from sitting so long. So then I took it to a mechanic and he was the one who told me the vent tube coming out of the bottom of the tank was sealed up. So he drilled a vent hole in top of tank under gas cap to allow it to vent. He said he changed oil and oil filter and drained all my fuel and said it was working fine. When I got the bike home I started noticing the fuel mileage was horrible and then saw the oil sight glass was full even with bike on kickstand so when I opened the oil cap gas came pouring out alot. What would u recommend me doing first. I really appreciate all your time and help.

It's probably leaking from the carb and down the cylinder into the crankcase.
it is probably due to a stuck float in the carb. take the float bowl off and make sure it is clean. the float can also be full of gas not letting it float up and stop the gas flow. the carb will fill up and leak wherever it can which is likely the case

I did some looking and that bike does have injectors, Did you spend alot of time cranking the bike trying to start it.
If so you may have put a bunch of unburnt gas in the cylinder and it ran down into the case.
It's not to common i wouldn;t think unless something is hooked up wrong and causing an over injection or something of that sort.
it is also possible that the injectors are stuck and not shutting off the fuel. does the bike have an electric fuel pump?

drain the oil and fill with clean oil.
then remove the injectors an visually check them see if anything is obvious.
maybe clean the injector end with injector cleaner.
I think you have a problem with the injection system. is there a fuel regulator? maybe that would need to be checked or replaced if it's bad.
other than that not to sure.
But you need to get the gas out of the crank case. ASAP it will jack the seals up

Cbr 600 f4i when i take off it goes dead and the fi light comes on

Sound like you have a faulty fuel pump that is about to go out or possibly have a clogged screen. Either way, the bike is starving for fuel when you attempt to accellerate, but is just getting enough to start and idle.

My fuel pump on my cbr600fw is leaking. what could be the problem

Possibilities are: mount screws need to be tightened, tank is rusted through, cracked pump casing and bad fuel line connection.
