Kenwood KDC-138. When we turn car off, deck stays on unless I manually turn off. Worried it could drain battery. It it normal that it stays on after car is turned off, or do I have a wiring problem ?

On Page 18 it describes the error that you're seeing... let me re-type it here:
PROTECT / DCER: The speaker wire has a short-circuit or touches the chassis of the vehicle, and then the protection function is activated. -- Wire or insulate the speaker cable properly and press the reset button
I found on Page 3, the reset button is located just below and to the left of the volume knob...
change the tune mode to standby mode. Then press menu button for few second until clock word is displayed on the screen. Afterward, press the center of the main control button on the right side of the stereo system. The time is now blinking and you can start set the time by pressing upward & downward button for hour and left & right button for the minute
