Hard drive says it is security freeze locked - Western Digital Computers & Internet

Maybe if you can format the disk-but you loose data, maybe there is a program that can do it, probably in linux, or bootable itself, maybe ask acer for master password or something, if you still own original laptop and it runs then try to remove disk encryption while the hdd is accessible with laptop (i think its in bios), otherwise the hdd may be unusable to prevent data theft. you can plug any sata hdd into any sata device if you can hook all the cables, no compatibility issues there. try googling and youtubing for more answers

it might be power or data trying to get a connection make sure all power and data leads are securely attached

if this fails you might have a dirty hard driver with the reader arm skipping across the platters on your hard drive


give the hard drive a firm tap on the side to free up the reader arm you might be able to get it going long enough to slvage your data or it might go for a longer time


or you might use the freeze hard drive

I got an Everest Online University laptop from a pawn shop, I wiped the hard drive and re-installed windows, the white screen came back, I installed a Linux Operating System (Ultimate Edition 3.0) and the Everest Block was unable to work,problem solved, never saw the problem ever again on that computer.

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs its connections needs its connections continue its cycle and to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

Freeze up can be from many things, you did not give any details as to what your were doing when it froze up, so its tough to say where the problem may be.

Second part of your question....you don't add memory to a hard drive...you simply install a larger SATA hard drive into the PS3 (one larger than the one you have installed).

No you do not need a security buffer. It is recomended but not required.

Games freeze for two reasons. Overheating and the hard drive locking up. If you have your games installed, you most likely eliminated the overheating problem.

Since you are not getting Red Ring, it probably isn't overheating. That leaves the hard drive. Turn of the console and unplug it. Remove the hard drive. Now is a good time to clean any dust from the connectors or vents. Reattach and play. Some games like Fable 2, Fallout 3, and others are more prone to freezing when accessing the hard drive that others. If it is freezing more times than not, you have an issue with the hard drive.

If it didn't make it through scan disk it is most likely the hard drive.

you may try formating into a linux partion first using partion magic and then to any of the windows partition

They make chains with locks that screw to a secure surface. (floor,wall, desk, specially made etc.) You then hook you hard drive to the secure lock and someone can't easily pilfer it. Hope that helps, Tim
