Replace the batteries from the remote control. Press and hold the TV button on remote for 5 seconds. If the red light shines bright, your remote is OK since it is showing it's programmable side. If unit still won't go on using the remote, reboot the whole system by unplugging the power cord and other wire from the Subwoofer. Wait one minute, then replug all and see if the system displays BOSE 321 in front when re-connected. If so, try the remote and if that doesn't work, your dead, the Infra red communication device from the unit to the remote is busted inside the unit and needs to be returned to the company like mine!!!!!

You must use optical sound wire in order to reprduce dolby digital......You should have 2inputs on the back for this......plus the signal must be broadcasted in dolby digital.Such as HBO,SHOWTIME....they will tell you before the show comes on whether or not the movie or event is being broadcasted in dolby digital.Your unit will automatically change to dolbly digital once the show or event starts.Just make sure your input on video1,2,or3 is set to optical1 or 2.Just press the "Audio Sel" on the remote to change the audio source. But make sure the optical wire is connected first.....And just incase, make sure you are sending a dolby digital source to the unit from the sat reciever, cable box,playstation2.....make sure the dolby digital/optical option is on.You can find out what audio options you have in the menu screen.........or the redneck way.look on the back of the sat reciever/cablebox/playstaion2 ect...for a red laser light comming from these units.........i hope tht helps.
Me too, i been looking for A remote for my surround sound system the same one you described it, it's been impossible to find one, if you ever find it please let me know, thanks
if it happens to both remotes and the built in system the problem has to be with the reciever in the unit or antenna, where you have this unit is it inside a metal building? if so you may need to move the antenna outside the building. good luck
