Toshiba 32AV500u turns on and the screen is lit, but I cannot get into the menu or change inputs. Do I just need to change the main board?
I used to have the TV on practically every day until 4 years ago when I stopped using it. Now it turns on, the screen is lit and can be seen with all lights off. I cannot get into the menu or change inputs.

Please check the power outlet. Try changing to a different power outlet. Look for jammed on/off switch on remote or on control panel of TV. If nothing works, better refer it to a qualified service technician.
I have the same problem with the black screen and no sound. Also the green light turns on and off while hitting the power button. Although if i turn it on then off multiple times it eventually turns on and works perfect... Could you do the same thing before it finally quit all together or did yours just happen over night?

i work at cort furniture in kalamazoo mi. as an electronic tech.my co. has about 143 of these model ty'sthey rent. i have ran across about ten of these that don't come on. the most common failure is the right inverter board and sometimes it is the main signal board.they have no replacements for these but have to be sent in to a repair co.to be repaired.
Save yourself some agony. Call Toshiba and see if they could give you a warranty concession being that it is just over the year warranty. The cause of the failure is either the Main Board or the LCD panel. If it is the Main board it would cost approx 450.00 to 500.00.
If it is the Panel it would cost more to fix it than what you paid to buy it in the first place.
Hope this helps

In my discussions with Toshiba Tech. Support, it could be caused by the Main Board or the LCD Panel. Do to the cost Of the LCD Panel they would recommend to replace the Main Board first. Is the set less than a year old? If so it should be covered under warranty.
If it is just over the warranty I would contact Toshiba to see if the would give you a warranty concession.
Hope this helps,

It sounds to me that the Main board is causing the problem. But I would get in touch with Toshiba for a warranty repair. It has a one year parts and labor warranty. It makes it a lot cheaper for the pocket.
Good Luck,

Press the MENU key. Press the up/down arrows to get to Input Connfiguration. Press the right left/keys to change to CABLE, and then press enter. Then press the up/down arrows to get to Auto Ch Search. Press the right arrow or ENTER, and let the tv go through all the channels to add them - this make take a little time.
