When I insert a 2gb Skandisk Memory card into the expansio slot it does not seem to be recognised by the device.
I have formatted the card on a PC but still have no success.
There are several possible issues here so I will cover them all...
The size of the card is not the issue as the model you have is known to work with 2gb and 4gb SDRAM Cards.
If the memory you have is SDHC rather than Regular SD that would be the problem. Your device will not work with SDHC memory.
What OS did you use when you reformatted the card? The reason that I ask is that the standard format for that device is supposed to be FAT, not FAT32 or NTFS. If you formatted it in FAT32 or NTFS it will work fine on your computer but not on the phone.
Try reformatting the card using the FAT system.

Thanks very much for your help - It was the format standard which caused the problem. I can only guess that these cards come shipped formatted FAT32 because Re-formatting in FAT immediately cured the problem.
There is no mention of this at all in the manual or on the i-MateClub site which surprised me because I surely cannot be the 1st person to experience this problem.
Thanks again for your very swift response
