If the heater cuts out when the lid is replaced, it could be overheating, or a fault with the thermostat, but I think it maybe caused by low pump pressure or a partial fuel blockage. When the lid is off, most of the air from the fan escapes, so less is forced through the combustion chamber, and a weaker fuel mixture would ignite. Have you checked the fuel filter? Have you checked the air pressure? Did this problem start suddenly or over a period of time? If suddenly, the plastic end that holds the air filters could be cracked allowing pressure loss. If the problem is caused by a weak air/fuel mixture, as soon as you replace the lid, all the air is forced through the chamber, causing the flame to "blow out", and immediately the flame is gone, the flame out control would stop the heater. As is often the case with space heaters, the problem may not necessarily be caused by the obvious!
It may be over heating check vent ports verify no obstructions reduicing air flow.
This switch is located in the front
passenger's footwell, behind a
flip-up cover, by the kick panel
access cover.
To reset the switch:
1. Turn the ignition to the off
position.
2. Check the fuel system for leaks.
3. If no leaks are apparent, reset the
switch by pushing in on the reset
button.
4. Turn the ignition to the on
position.
5. Wait a few seconds and return
the key to the off position.
6. Make another check for leaks.
