You can use the recovery disk which came along with the laptop to reinstall the OS. There is no function key to start the installation automatically, there is a backup / restore button in some laptops which can reset the OS. Check the manual for any such button on your laptop.

The keys are: Alt+F10.

If you need the whole process:

1 Boot to Windows XP.
2 Press Alt + F10 to open the Acer eRecovery Management utility.
3 Enter the password to proceed. The default password is six zeros.
4 In the Acer eRecovery Management window, select Recovery settings and click Next.
5 In the Recovery settings window, select Burn image to disk and click Next.
6 In the Burn image to disk window, select 1. Factory default image or 2. Application CD and click Next.
7 Follow the instructions on screen to complete the process.

Good luck.

How to reboot my acer aspire 3690 to factory condition

On startup you will see a message on the acer splash screen to get into "SETUP". This will either be the DEL key or the F2 key.

Go into your BIOS and make sure that D2D recovery is enabled. If you do not see this D2D option then you can exit and should not have to adjust anything else.

when you restart the PC again, hold down the ALT and tap on the F10 key, this will start the recovery partition and load your system to factory default.

This option will only work if you still have your original hard drive in the PC and you have not reformated or reinstalled windows from another media souce.
