I have a Designer 1, and I use Sew What Pro to copy designs onto the floppy disk. Example: I purchased a Design from the internet. I put it in Sew What Pro, and I save it to my desktop, in a file that

USB Designer 1s use Disk Manager, just like their floppy disk sisters, but it needs to be Disk Manager USB. New USB Des1s came with this program on a CD, and this software was also included free when a floppy disk Des1 was converted to USB. If you bought your D1 USB new, check the disks that came with it - one should be Disk Manager USB. If you purchased the machine second hand, contact the seller and ask for the program. It is a free standing program and you don't need a dongle. Check your 3D software - you might already have what you need. Open 3D, click down arrow for Accessories (far right-hand side) - what does your Disk Manager say? If it says Disk Manager USB you are okay to go.

I am not 100% sure of this, but I think that maybe the last update for 3D software (version 7.25) might have included Disk Manager USB. Go to the Husqvarna website and make sure your 3D is updated to the latest version.

If none of the above helps you, there is always the cheap cost embroidery software alternatives: Embird or Sew What. I believe they can write to Designer 1 USB sticks now.

Don't insert the floppy disk in the drive until you are ready to actually do the writing to disk. If it still won't recognize that there is a design disk there, try re-formatting using disk manager - you will lose whatever designs are already on the disk, so make sure to save them to your hard drive using Windows Explorer first.
You might just need updated drivers for your floppy drive. Try an internet search by searching for Husqvarna Customizing drivers, or something like that.

Hi Maria, I'll try to explain this to you hopefully as simple as possible you being new to the computer an all. With your Customizing Plus Software you should have the Disk Manager program that came with it,correct? Because you need this program so you can bring your designs into it so that it can make a floppy disk or disks depending on how many designs you have on your CD. What this program does is makes a disk for your Designer 1 in the format (design language) of shv. that your machine can read to do the embroidery. It won't read regular design formats such as hus.,vip.,pes ext. Did you check out the tutorial that came with your software when you installed it? If not go to your start menu click on it go to All programs, a menu of all your programs should pop-up. Go to Embroidery System-Tutorials-Disk Manager click on that a tutorial video will start there are 2 choices writing to a disk & printing or reading a disk & saving. Click on writing to a disk & printing 1st when that starts click on the choices they give you highlighted with a red square to take you to the different steps that it will show you how to do that, or click on the arrow on the right of that and it will take you though the steps.Now this video is showing you to take your designs from the files that are located in your customizing system's sample stitch file folder that are located there, but since you are taking these files off of your CD you would go to your CD drive where they are located and select them from there. They are also showing you how to use the camera view button so you can see what you are selecting rather than the open button where you would just see the file names. Once you click on a design it shows up in a box in your disk manager. I myself like the camera view so I can see what I'm choosing.They are also showing how to add just 6 designs at a time because there are actually 4 menus you can add to in case you want to separate them into different sections. If not you can just keep adding your designs in the first menu until you can't add any more and then it will tell you disk full. Then it will show you how to get these designs onto your floppy disk by clicking on the button at the top that says write to disk and a menu will pop-up saying all designs will be deleted from disk! That just means any designs that maybe you have added to your disk for the machine format will be deleted not regular design formats (hus., pes.,ext.) Once you click on that it will show a bar at the bottom of the screen showing that it is writing to the disk once it hits 100% the bar will disappear and you disk is ready to put into your machine and you will be able to read your disk and sew your designs.
I know this sounds like a lot of info to take in and there are different ways to get your designs into your disk manager program faster but since you are new it would be too over whelming. But the disk manager is where you need to load your designs in order to be able to turn them into your sewing machines format ,and to a disk to sew them. Your Designer 1 will read none of the file formats you listed. It uses .shv which is a special file type created just for the Designer 1. Some embroidery sellers offer this format, but most do not. You don't need the .shv if you have the 4D software. When you purchase designs, you can buy almost any format you want and your software will deal with it. Most Husqvarna Designer owners purchase designs in .vp3 or .pes format. Avoid .art designs.

You need to set up your software using the Configure module. You can access this either by locating your 4D software folder on your hard drive - in that folder there should be an .exe called Configure - or use a link in your normal 4D screen once you open the program. Look for the icon along the top that looks like a screwdriver and pliers (or something like that). In Configure use the Send 1 tab to tell your software that you have a floppy disk Designer 1.

When you want to load designs for your sewing machine, open 4D Disk Manager (it will be in the drop-down Accessories box using the arrow beside the Configure button). You need to have the correctly formatted floppy disk in your computer's floppy disk drive. If you don't have one, you can format a blank one from within the Disk Manager module. Most importantly if you are using a floppy that already has been used in your Designer 1, you need to use the Read Disk icon along the top. The designs already on your floppy are read into the program. You can then add whatever designs you want by using the Open (icon showing an open manilla folder) or View (looks like a blue camera) buttons. Then you choose the Write Disk button to put not only your newly added designs on the floppy disk, but to also put back the ones that were already on it. Click "Yes" when asked if you want to erase designs already on the disk. It is quite safe provided you read the disk into Disk Manager first, as described above.

Designs can be converted for the Designer 1 (floppy disk or usb stick) one design at a time using Organizer. For a full copy of Disk Manager, you should get 4D Embroidery and it will be included.
Disk Manager is a copyrighted product and a "copy" can not be legally obtained.

The Designer 1 will not read a .hus file directly from a floppy disk. The file should be written to the floppy disk through "disk manager". This will convert many different stitch file formats, including .hus and .vip, to the .shv format required by the Designer 1.
If you happen to look at the files on the floppy after disk manager creates it, you will see one or two other files. Those are the magical ones that make the machine read the .shv's.
Disk manager will allow you to select multiple designs to write to the disk by selecting the blue camera icon and then clicking on the designs you want from the proper directory. Then, write to the disk.

It is just one design of a menu full of designs, is that right? Try re-loading the design from your software and maybe a re-format of the floppy before writing to disk.

You need to use either Organizer or Disk Manager to put designs on the floppy disk. Both of these are Husqvarna programs, not part of your computers operating system. If you copy shv file directly, the machine does not have all of the information that it needs to read the files. If the folder containing your original shv files that you purchased contains additional files, you just need to copy EVERY file within that folder to the floppy disk and it might work. Don't attempt to move individual files to the floppy. You will need them all.

Hi - I think you have a Viking Designer 1, which has a slot for a floppy disk on the side of the machine. If so, you need to purchase embroidery software that supports file type .sv1, and you will need to buy floppy disks.

You can buy embroidery software from Viking that will allow you to write design files onto floppy disks, but you can find other embroidery software packages that support the D1 which cost quite a bit less - make sure that file type .sv1 is supported before you buy.

Viking does sell designs that come on a D1 floppy disk. You can just pop the floppy into the machine, select you design, and go. You can find Viking designs online from time to time, but before you buy, ask if a floppy is included - the newer Viking design packages come with a DVD but might not include the floppy for the D1.

Disk Manager is part of Customizing software, in case you were wondering if you needed to buy more software. Ask again if you are having trouble locating it. You also need to format your floppy disk in Disk Manager before writing your designs to it.
