I have no sound output from my Pioneer SX-1700. Any thoughts?

First of all without knowing what happened to blow the fuse. Did it happen during a lightning storm? Was there a power outage or surge? were you using it at max volume or near max for an extended time? How many other devices do you have it plugged into? I looked it up online and it appears to be a 1992 model and I see it has finals able to output 50 wats. My first line of thought is you blew the finals (transistors that output to the speakers.) there are usually internal fuses for the finals and in some cases resistors designed to fail saving internal components from burning out. I see a picture of the unit with the cover off and there are 2 fuses by the power cord in the back and the finals are just forward of the power section attached to a large heat sink from the power section to the finals. you will not get sound if the finals portion of the circuitry is burned out. I suggest you take it to a service certified shop where an electronic tech such as myself can repair it for you. Please do not attempt to do this yourself because of shock hazard and ***** from 120 v electricity. It usually is a simple fix for the technician.

I have a pioneer sx-2300 in my case the symptoms were powers on you could hear relay click but no output and display was spazzing out flicking on and off or partial image on display I found a fried diode in 5 v section of power supply labeled (D607) on pcb. Replaced and that seemed to do the trick. Hope this helps someone. People always say “ fuse “ or “loose connection “ sometimes this is the case but in my experience it’s usally a little more advanced issue than that.

Without seeing the unit in question, one really cannot say what the problem might be. I'd recommend you take it to an electronics repair shop.

Many subwoofers accept both line level (RCA jacks) and amplified inputs (+ and - speaker terminals). The Pioneer SX-316 does not offer line level output, only amplified outputs via the PURPLE + and - speaker terminals. This means that in order to use any subwoofer with an SX-316, the sub woofer will need to accept a + and - speaker wire connections for input Your manual speaker connections are on page 11 of the manual which can be found here: http://www.manualslib.com/manual/260358/Pioneer-Sx-316-S.html#manual

Starting at the rear of the SX-316; run a speaker wire from the PURPLE + and - terminal (SUBWOOFER) to the + and - speaker input terminals on the subwoofer. See your subwoofer manual or experiment (at your own risk) with connecting the speaker wire from the SX-316 to the subwoofer's + and - LEFT only, RIGHT only or BOTH left and right speaker inputs. Do not connect wires from the SX-316 to the speaker OUTPUT terminals of your subwoofer.

Finally, adjust any variable low pass filter knob or setting on the subwoofer to the lowest frequency that your main speakers are capable of producing. If you're not sure what that value is, try setting the subwoofer to 100Hz and judge how it blends with the main speakers. If it seems a little too bass heavy and thick then reduce the setting to 80Hz. On the other hand, if the sound seems to be slightly thin and lacking weight, try increasing the setting to 120Hz. By careful listening and a bit of patience you will be able to get the sound to seem balanced and well blended.

check the caps and output transistor the power ones and resistors

Is the unidentified TV a sound source from the SX-315's perspective? Is it's audio output enabled whene the TV volume is down? Would the Cable Box be a BETTER source?

DVD audio straight in from its highest quality audio output. Use the stereo audio output to run straight to the TV for casual watching through TV speakers without the Pioneer involved.

A TV is just a glorified night-light, not a sound source - get its related audio from the Cable Box, ditto the highest quality

Does the output relay click about 5 sec. after powering on? If it does check if the tape2/tape monitor is on. Check speakers and wiring. Try headphones.

There aren't any fuses for the output.

If no relay then it probably needs output transistors and a few resistors.

This is likely to be th output relay having corroded contacts. The headphone output is taken directly from the sepaker output but fed through resistors. The output relay has failed.

a little bit foolish thing: see if you have both the speaker channels (A and B) down. if you have both down it doesn't work - didn't for me.. and obviously make sure you have the right letter down - same outpout as your boxes
