Laptop stuck at 800x600

Dell Latitude D630 running XP with Intel 965 graphics, connected to 17'' LCD monitor through a dock. In Display Settings, resolutions are all shown, all the way up to 1900x1200. Selecting any resolution displays the standard message (''Your resolution has been changed, can you read this''), yet it's still at 800x600. Resolution can be successfully changed via the Intel Graphics Options app, but it will reset to 800x600 on a reboot.

I removed monitor and video card from device manager and let Windows reinstall to no avail. I reinstalled video with fresh driver from Dell's site, still no dice. Malware scans come back clean.

Any thoughts?

I don't have a Visual Performance option is system settings. This computer is not the same as the one pictured, it's not an XFR, just a regular Latitude D630, but I didn't see an option for that.

Odd problem. To solve, best bet is too reboot computer, press F2 to enter system settings. Go to visual performance and set a terminal networked computer default. May reset all other setting as well though.

I have dell d630 it turn on but not display anything what is the problem

If the unit powers up and it seems to work except for the screen, hook a external monitor to the video output usually on the back, if picture is present! the laptop has issues. But if both screens show the same symptom the problem is in the video graphics card.

If you don't get a display on the external monitor, then most likely your video circuit is the problem. If your laptop has a plug-in video card it can be replaced. However if it's integrated into the motherboard then you'll have to have that replaced.

Assuming the graphics drivers are up to date and assuming you have a high resolution set in the display on the control panel, the screen may be damaged or the VGA cable damaged. In extreme cases the onboard chip may be loosning from the motherboard. You cannot install an external graphics card on this laptop. I would check the above and see if the existing setup can be repaired economically

My dell laptop fell off my bed and now my screen is broken.. is there a way i can get my pictures off?

Provided the screen is the only thing damaged, you have several options.
  1. Connect and external monitor and use it to see what you are doing while you copy you photos to other media. (Fn+F8 enable external monitor)
  2. Remove the HDD, connect it to another system using a USB adapter, and copy your files: http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Drive-Adapter-Serial-ATAPI/dp/B0012TOG08
  3. Replace the broken lcd: http://cgi.ebay.com/DELL-LATITUDE-D620-D630-COMPLETE-LCD-WARRANTY_W0QQitemZ220582533329QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item335bbe58d1

Can you set up two Dell E172FP 17" flat panel LCD monitors with an latitude D630 docking station?

Yes, but you will need a dvi to vga adapter.
Or one of the monitor must have a dvi input.

MY D630 LAPTOP DOES NOT WORK IN DOCKING STATION

When powering on the D630 from the Docking Station, press F2 to go into Setup. Scroll down to the Docking Section, and check the Dock device info for the status. If it shows undocked, then try changing the below settings to: Hot Undock, Enabled Silent, and Universal Connect Enabled. Save these settings. Make sure you update your BIOS to A16 from http://support.dell.com under drivers and downloads section. If still not recognized after this, check the dock port on the D630 for obstructions or burn markings on the pins. try cleaning with rubbing alcohol and qtip swab. I have seen a few cases like this and ultimately the motherboard was the issue and needed to be replaced.

Try updating to BIOS to version A16 from http://support.dell.com Ensure you are not attached to the docking station when flashing the BIOS. Once updated, connect the 90W adapter to the docking station, connect your laptop to the dock, and power on using the docking station power button.
