You did not mention which gps systems do you have. Anyway giving you details of tom-tom gps language change instructions.

Change the language settings on your TomTom GPS device. If your TomTom GPS receiver is set to the wrong language, change the current language to the language of your choice. Perform a reset on the device as described in Step 1. When your GPS unit turns back on, tap the button in the lower right corner of the screen to continue. Tap the next screen to access the GPS receiver's main menu. Tap on the wrench icon to access the "Change Preferences" setting screen. Scroll through the "Change Preferences" screens until you see the "Change Language" icon, identified by three flags. Tap the "Change Language" icon and choose your desired language from the list. Depending on which language you chose, you may be asked to choose a new voice for turn-by-turn navigation.

For Garmin device:-

Try this below

Touch the Wrench icon which is located on the screen with the Magnifying Glass and Map icon
Touch the Wrench icon
Touch the down arrow
Touch the Lips/Mouth icon
Touch the top right blue box
Touch the up arrow until you see American English
Touch American English
Touch OK
This should now be in English.

1. In driving view, tap the map to enter the main menu.
2. Locate the "Preferences" icon and tap it.
3. Cycle through the menu pages until you find the "Battery Saving Preferences" icon and tap it.
4. First select if you'd like the screen to be dimmed between instructions or not.
5. Next, select your device *not* to stay on when external power is lost.
   

To change the display language:

• Tap the map display of the screen to enter the device menu.
• Tap the icon that looks like a wrench or a gear (depends on software version) to enter the settings menu.
• Use the arrow icon to find the settings page showing the icon with the flags and tap it. I believe on the Tomtom One its on the last (8 of 8) page.
  
• Select the language of your choice from the list.

Do you want to change the language of the VOICE or the WORDS IN THE SCREEN? These two are independent from each other and need to be set up by separate.

1) To change the VOICE, you need to download an ENGLISH VOICE.
a) Start TomTom Home on your computer.
b) Plug in the TomTom dock to a USB port on your computer and plug in your TomTom GPS on the dock
c) Turn on the GPS and when asked "connect to computer" answer "yes" (you may not be asked if you want to connect; TomTom Home amy detect your GPS and connect to it automatically). If your GPS is not connecting to TomTom Home, turn the GPS off, turn it upside down and press the "reset" button for 7 seconds, place the GPS back on the dock and turn it on. It should automatically connect to TomTom Home now.
d) On the TomTom Home software, click on the icon labeled "Add Traffic, Voice, cameras..."
e) Click on the icon labeled "voices"
f) Click on the icon labeled "computer voices"
g) Click on any of the voices that says "English" on the second ("language") column; download and install the voice
h) Go to the TomTom Home top menu and under "DEVICE" choose "DISCONNECT DEVICE". Wait a few seconds until the GPS communication with the computer is broken and the GPS restarts. You don't need the computer anymore for now
i) On your TomTOm GPS, tap on the middle of the screen to bring the menu.
j) Touch "CHANGE PREFERENCES"
k) Touch "VOICE PREFERENCES"
l) Touch "CHANGE VOICE"
m) Select any of the voices that are in English (such as "SUSAN, English US, Computer"). After this, you can TEST the voice. Check that you can hear the voice, otherwise, you'll need to adjust the volume. We'll do this later. Touch "SELECT" to select the voice. Press "DONE" on the next 3 screens until you're back to the GPS navigation screen
n) To change the volume, tap on the LOWER LEFT rectangle. You'll get a VOLUME SLIDE. Slide it to the RIGHT to increase the volume and to the LEFT to lower it. I keep mine around 85% volume. YOU ARE DONE SETTING UP A NEW VOICE

2) To change the LANGUAGE of the WRITTEN DIRECTIONS on the screen:
a) On your TomTom GPS screen, tap on the middle of the screen to bring the MAIN MENU on
b) Tap on the PREFERENCES icon
c) Tap on the RIGHT ARROW 7 times or until you see an icon labeled "CHANGE LANGUAGE".
d) Using the UO and DOWN arrows on the GPS screen, scroll up or down untill you see the langauges you're looking for. You'll get a screen with several languages available, including "English UK" and "English US"
d) Touch on the screen you want. The screen will automatically go back to the previous menu screen that shows the "CHANGE LANGUAGE" icon. Touch the "DONE" button.

YOU ARE ALL DONE. Now, your VOICE and all WRITTEN DIRECTIONS should be in ENGLISH.

Since I first turned on my unit it uses Sarasota as it home to travel. How do I change the home to be my address instead for the home location?

Sounds like the sensitivity is whacked...can you hear the type sound. Mine does this sometimes and I solve it by using 2 thumbs and constantly push the settings icon, on each side. It will bring up the x for sensitivity...using the stylus tap gently and then twice to set. Hope this is what you were looking for.

All of the Garmin automotive GPS units that speak street names are also loaded with basic voice prompts. If one of these types of voice prompts has been selected, the voice prompts will not speak street names.

In order to change this setting on the StreetPilot c550/580, please follow these steps:

1. In the Main Menu, tap on the Settings icon.
2. Tap on "Locale"
3. The second line on this screen has a picture of a mouth. To the right, the current voice for the GPS device is listed. Tap it to change the voice.
4. Select a voice that is labeled with (TTS) at the end. These voices will speak street names.
5. Select "OK". The voice has now been changed.

Your device should now speak street names.

Did you try the switch on the back of the GPS? Turn off on the front, turn the switch on the back off, then on. This has worked for me numerous times.
