you have to reinstall the wireless software/driver. Go into computers, properties, device manger, uninstall the wireless network driver and go on to left of screen and click on file and click on "Scan for hardware changes" and it should start working again.

Wireless security

I think you should upgrade the firmware on your router.
After upgrading the firmware reset the router and reconfigure it manually.
I will also suggest you to create a new wireless network and use security modem WPA.
Try to connect to the new wireless network and see if that works.

See linksys router setup

I have broadband thru verizon on my netbook(windows7 OS). can i "jump" off that connection with my home pc, wireless capable, win xp OS? meanoing can i broadcast n\broadband signal so i can surf internet...

Yes, easy way would be through Connectify. It turns almost any Windows 7 OS PC into a virtual wifi router. The software is free. Basically, it will share whatever internet connection your netbook is getting via a virtual wifi hotspot that your other wireless devices can connect to.

I just went out of town with this computer and was not aware I needed a data card to get online while traveling does this computer support the parts I need to buy

if by data card you mean one from your cellular phone company, than you can use a usb wireless broadband receiver and it should work. If you just simply mean the wireless in the hotel, it should be already equipped.

Yes.

Just ensure you configure your new HP pc with the same security code and password you used on your old Dell.
