Kenmore HE4t Washer stuck in "controls locked" mode
I was doing laundry, finished one load and moved to dryer. Added 2nd load and the "controls locked" light came on. I have held Pause/Cancel, I have unplugged, I have watched the DVD that came with it, have searced sears service matters website. Can't find resolution.
The "control locked" light is on and clothes are stuck in the washer. The door is locked and won't open. We have unplugged it for an hour with no success in restarting the machine. I have pressed every button on the thing and nothing changes. The "control locked" light is on and clothes are stuck in the washer. The door is locked and won't open. I also have standing water after a wash cycle, but not immediately after. Given the history of very expensive repairs to this Kenmore HE4T washing machine, I suggest you do what I do, if the machine is still cleaning the clothes. Whatever cycle you use, try to be around when the machine finishes, so that you can turn off the water supply and remove the damp clothes to the dryer or clothes line. Turn on the water supply only when you want to use the machine. This works for me because I don't do many loads per week and my laundry area is right next to my kitchen. If it was in my basement, I'd have replaced it already with a top loading machine with mechanical not electronic controls.
This advise is for Kenmore Elite and Whirlpool Duet front loader washers and dryers with a Control Lock problem.
This may or may not be an indication of a serious problem. In the majority of the cases, this is a simple operator error. Nearly all these model appliances have some sort of Control Lock feature on the front panel now. This is a designed safety feature that is used to prevent small children from manipulating the controls. The controls can be easily locked or unlocked by pressing and holding the following button on the front panel:
Whirlpool Duet Washer - Press and hold the END OF CYCLE SIGNAL button for 3 seconds.
Whirlpool Duet Dryer - Press and hold the END OF CYCLE SIGNAL button for 3 seconds.
Kenmore Elite Washer - Press and hold the DRAIN/SPIN button for 3 seconds.
Kenmore Elite Dryer - Press and hold the AUTO DRY LEVEL button for 3 seconds.
These instructions may not be all inclusive for all Kenmore and Whirlpool models, but they are the most common. Chances are, if you have a Control Lock feature, the instructions will be printed on the front panel adjacent to the button that is required to lock or unlock the controls.
NOTE: These instructions may also work for newer model Maytag, Hotpoint, Admiral and Fridgidaire model front loaders as well. Refer to your owner's manual or front panel for instructions pertaining to your sepcific model.
If the Control Lock feature will not lock or unlock the appliance, unplugging the unit for AT LEAST 30 minutes is recommended in order to reset the main control board. In many cases this is all that is required to correct momentary glitches.

Same problem with my front loader. You have to make sure to clean out the rubber trap in the front regularly. it seems to collect alot of hair and plug the drain hole. also it helps to leave the door open when you finish washing to further reduce the stagnant water smell. Use fabric softener for the towels!
Press and hold 'dry' & 'spin', shd unlock OR Try holding the "end of cycle" button down for 5 or 6 seconds. You must hv done it accidently, it is the child lock device.
Pl. rate if helped.
remove feet set on stand and put the 4 screws in 2 in the front 2 in the back the remove the drawer and level the 4 legs on the stand then lock the lock nut if you git a little vibration raise the front washer up 1/8 in usely will take care of it
