hi,
this model cam has a fault like you described, I think this can be cured by disconnecting the memory backup lithium battery, takeout this battery and reconnect it after 5minutes.
First make sure you're on Auto mode (press SCENE and choose AUTO mode) Use permanent flash by pressing UP until the flash logo gets selected, then press OK. Also, if you don't want to use the flash, put the flash on AUTO and press menu, go to "Set up", scroll to "Anti-shake AE" and set it to "Auto", press OK to save settings and try taking pictures again.
I'm not familiar with the A430 specifically, but all digital cameras have exposure settings for the type of picture you're taking (outdoor scene, portrait, shadows, etc.). Since you can take good interior pictures, I think you're likely set on a "indoor" or "shadow" setting rather than "auto". Some of the icons are a little confusing but "auto" is the best setting for most situations. If the camera is set to auto already, then I would suspect that the light sensor is defective and contacting Canon Support is your best option.
Have you checked the widescreen setting? Is it set to auto? If it is it wll change if the picture is not 16-9. Most sets have the option to switch it to a number of settings away from auto, including 16-9. So have a default auto setting, which can be set to 16-9.
Set the all settings to wide, not auto as if the player is set to 4:3 format then this sends a signal to the tv telling it so.Go into the setup menu and choose picture format set to 16:9 or wide. Set the tv to auto and this will keep all picture inputs to origional format. I.E. if it was recorded in 16:9 it will play in 16:9. You could set the tv to 16:9 but it will distort the picture on 4:3 recordings.
it seems that the shutter of your camera is having a problem with. normally whin it gets stucked fully open it creats such problem. you need a help of a repairer.
