I just checked your user's manual, and unfortunately it only lists error codes up to E5. There are several things I would check, though. You're saying that it stops working; I would remove the cover over the thread path--it's separate from the front and back, and may be removed by the user for cleaning--and check to see if there are any threads wrapped around something, preventing the machine from working. I would also check that the bobbin winder and buttonhole lever are in their correct positions. When it stops, try to sew manually by bringing the hand wheel towards you (ALWAYS towards you--never away from you.)

Once you have ruled out user error, you might want to send an email to Singer customer service, asking what the code means, because while it might not be in your user's manual, it is probably in the service manual.

If those haven't worked, it's time to buy the service manual. I get mine from Sewing Parts Online; I checked, and it's not listed as in stock, but if you will call or email them (calling is recommended), they can and will order it for you, and their charges are reasonable.

I have E7 and machine won't work????

E7 sounds like an error code. First step is to look it up in your owner's manual.

How do I reset an E7 error message?

HAAA!!! Me, too!! I just got the same code. I actually took off all the stuff to clean it (glad I did too because after a whole week of sewing on it straight, it was hella filthy!), I still couldn't get it to work. The answer is in the Singer FAQ website (http://www.singerco.com/support/frequently-asked-questions). Your button hole lever has been bumped. It is just to the left of the the needle bar. I just pulled mine all the way down, then pushed it all the way back up. No more E7!!!! Color me happy for sure!

Error Code E7 on Singer 6180

E7 means the machine has 'had enough' and that error flashes to let you know it needs a break. I found that out by trial and error and after phoning Singer as well.

The machine was accidentally dropped. We started with an E7 error, and now an E3 error message.

E7 means
The start/stop button, reverse/reinforcement stitch button
or the thread cutter button was pressed while no thread
cassette was installed

E3 means
The buttonhole or bar tack stitch was selected and the
start/stop button was pressed while the buttonhole lever
is raised.
(make sure buttonhole lever is in correct position)

If the start/stop button is pressed before the sewing machine is correctly set up or if an operation is performed
incorrectly, an error message appears in the stitch indicator. Follow the instructions that appear.
If you press (Stitch selection key) or do the operation correctly while the error message is displayed, the
message disappears.
