You might have accidently set it to one of the special sound settings such as dolby or DTS. Bring up the main menu and look for the sound menu.

SOURCE: can't get vcr to record

Make sure you are giving the VCR a signal.
If using a RF source (cable or antenna), make sure the VCR's tuner is set up for the right type and channels.
When trying to record put the TV's input to the VCR to make sure it is getting what you want.

SOURCE: Toshiba Model: SD-V295 DVD/VCR Combo Setup for TV recording

The proper hookup is antenna or cable into the VCR RF/antenna input, then VCR RF/antenna output to the TV RF input. The hookup you describe means no signal is getting to the VCR.

With some TVs, there can be Video and audio output jacks which can be hooked to the video and audio jacks of the VCR. However this would likely mean you could only record the channel being watched, and, the TV would have to be on.

SOURCE: problem recording of hd tv with cable box from

Here are a few items to check and how you need to set your recording.

1. Your HD box should have a coax out (or to TV) connection on the back of the box.
2. Connect a coax cable from the back of the HD box to the "RF IN (FROM ANT.)" in the back of the VCR.
3. When you set your VCR to record you need to set it to copy channel 3 and tune the HD box to the channel you want to record.
This should fix your problem...

Good Luck...

SOURCE: can get analog stations recorded but not hi defination

Hi, unless the VCR/dvd recorder is hi def then you won't be able to.

Hdmi connection is hi-def, I think you can have a hi-def signal through composite, but it's your recorder thats the problem, it cannot read the number of line a hi-def signal has.

I have just found this.

I hope this helps.

Getting a no signal message on all tuner channels

Most likely cause is a bad connection of the aerial at the back of the unit. It could be that the lead itself doesn't make a good contact inside.

The unit will switch on then clicks around the VCR, DVD and the HDD, then switches itself off!

I have had this problem. Today I unplugged the machine completely and left it for about an hour (to make sure the power supply was drained). Then I unscrewed the little black case screws (small cross-head screwdriver) and lifted off the lid. Does anything seem wrong? Dead mice etc.? See if there is much dust inside, especially around the fan at the back right. If there is, then blow out what you can (with an air dust can - not spitty breath!).
Without touching ANYTHING in the case, plug the machine in and switch on with the remote. Select DVD immediately and see what it does. Does it seem OK? If so leave it for as long as you can before switching to HDD. If the hard-drive makes a noise it's probably on the way out. The hard drive can be replaced (SATA drive).
If there is no joy from the machine after switching on (flashing lights etc.) then give Toshiba a ring about the possibility of a repair.
Good luck.

How do I hook up my vcr to my dvd recorder so I

You will need one RCA video cable it will have a yellow, red and white plugs. On the back of your VCR locate where the color inputs are find where it says VIDEO OUT hook it up there. On the back of the DVD Recorder look for the same color input jacks NOW find where it says VIDEO IN hook it up there. You may have to turn on your TV,DVD recorder and VCR to get the right channel. your Recorder may have one or more video inputs if it does turn on all three. Use the channel on your TV you use to watch DVDs make sure you see your DVD screen. Now to record to a DVD. Change the channel on the DVD Recorder. Look for the input channels It may be Video 1 Video 2 etc... depends on the inputs you have. ( A great way to tune your DVD Recorder is to play a prerorded VCR tape. Turn the channel on your DVD Recorder unil you see the prereorded tape playing. )

Recording with comcast hd box and toshiba VCR/DVD

1st, see if you can get another cable box that offers component as well as RCA outputs on the back. Does your cable box have S Video out and does your toshiba have S Video in? If so, hook up the S Video from cable box to Toshiba. Then hook up R&W audio from Cable Box out to Toshiba In. Set the channel on the cable box to what you want to record. Set Toshiba to record channel 3 or 4, whichever your Toshiba is set on. The cable box controls the channel you are recording. You cannot set the recorder to the channel you want to record. It must be either 3 or 4. Try it. If everything else fails, you have to go cable from wall to cable in on cable box, cable out on cable box to cable in on Toshiba then either cable or RCA out on Toshiba to TV.

I cannot get my DVR4300 to go in to TV channel change mode while recording a program

Why not simply record a channel tuned into the vcr and use your tv remote to watch a channel tuned into your tv? that is how it is normaly done... don't forget a vcr/pvr/dvd recorder has it's own channels just like a tv does... just no screen of it's own the tv has of course it's own channels and in fact does not even need to be switched on in order for your recorder to record a program neither does the recorder need to be on to use your tv

VCR/DVD player DVP3340V/17

Are you using the cable connectors to go into the VCR, and then from the VCR to the TV?

If so, turn the VCR on. Put the TV on channel 3 or 4 (depending on which one you have it set to. If you are unsure, try both channels one at a time) Press the VCR/DVD button so the display on the VCR says VCR (not DVD). Now, you should be able to change the channel with your VCR remote control. If not, you have a problem with your cables. Make sure your cable from the wall goes to RF IN on your VCR. The RF Out on the VCR should go to your TV ANT In or TV RF In.

If you have successfully gotten your TV to display the TV station shown on the front of your VCR, then all you have to do is put in a tape, select the channel you want to record and press the record button.

If you want to watch another channel while you're recording, press the TV/VCR button on the VCR remote, then use your TV remote to change channels.

When you want to stop recording, press the stop button, put the TV back onto channel 3 or 4 (depending on what you have it set to) and press the TV/VCR button on your VCR again. From here you can rewind and view your recording.
