ONLY the old 49MHz models can be heard 'by accident'. Newer units are digital and can't be monitored.

What is ment be reflashing a police scanner

  • When police, public safety, etc re-band then some scanners may not pick up the frequencies and you need to update the firmware (when available) to keep your scanners ability to monitor certain frequencies, pairs of frequencies, splinter channels etc.

  • Hope this helps.

I have a handheld Uniden scanner that is several years old. BC80XLT. My police channels went digital, but emt, fire, etc stayed the same . Do I have to buy a new scanner to get my police or can I get...

If your locals went digital they are probably using trunked systems as well. Sorry, but there is no way to convert or modify your scanner to let you monitor the new systems. You'll need to pick up a trunking/digital scanner such as the Uniden BCD996XT. Programming the trunked systems is a real task, so I recommend that you purchase the Butel ARC XT PRO software and a subscription to RadioReference.com. The combination will let you research the systems in your area, decide which ones you want to monitor, and download them straight to your scanner.

@cant seem to find south australian police frequences

If you can monitor other frequencies, chances are the south australian police are in radio silence, in other words they are not transmitting as of this time, no need to worry, your scanner is ok, just keep on scanning. Happy Monitoring ;-)

I cant listen to the police

First, make sure that you have the correct frequency for your local police. You can find a comprehensive database of active frequencies in your area by visiting:
www.Reference.com

Program the frequency or frequencies using the instructions in the scanner's operating manual. and you should be all set. If you need the manual, you can download and print it, at no cost, here:
http://www.uniden.com/pdf/BC60XLT-1om.pdf

NOTE: If the frequency database shows that your local police are using a trunked system, you will not be able to monitor them using the BC60XLT-1. Trunked systems require a trunking scanner. Many law enforcement agencies are also using digital systems for their communications. If that's the case in your area you'll need a scanner capable of monitoring APCO-25 digital transmissions.

Can not get our police channels to scan, the fire and ambulance work

If your scanner previously picked up your local police communications, it's possible that their system has been upgraded to a new trunked radio system - a system that your BC370CRS is not capable of monitoring. For a comprehensive database of active frequencies and systems in your area, visit:

Hi, About a month or so ago, our local Police can't be heard on our scanner anymore. Did they change the frequency? Do they have a new one?

I don't know your location, but it's possible that your local police have upgraded to a trunked radio system. If that's the case you will not be able to monitor them on the BC350C. You can visit www.uniden.com for information on their complete line of trunking scanners.
