SOURCE: My printer c5280 keeps saying please reinsert or lower photo tray

This model appears to have several trays for print media see the manual. Check the default print settings by right-clicking on the printer icon in the Printers and Faxes folder and see that the default is set to what you print most. Also verify all trays are inserted properly and that you have plain paper in the paper tray.

How do I fix it when it says reinsert or lower photo tray?

It is not uncommon for switch contacts to get dirty and oxidize over time causing poor connections. What I do in those instances where cleaners cannot get in there, is to activate the switch on and off many times - often the movement, vibration, whatever removes the debris or cleans up the bad connection. With the tray, try inserting it in firmly and removing it a whole bunch of times to see if that does the job.
If not, then the sensor that is responsible for that needs to be replaced.

That's a great printer but HP support can make your hair fall out.
Sounds like a misaligned sensor. Look for a micro switch probabably on the tom inside left. Tape that shut with duct tape and maybe a bit of cardboard. You can try to reposition it too, but there is little adjustment tolerance. If that doesn't take, it may require replacement. Working pulls for the hp's are inexpensive on eBay. You can also try to junction the leads together temporarily.

If it is asking for photo paper you should be able to hit ok on the screen and then it should go to the default screen and be ready to print.
