New battery for toshiba laptpo 4600 but stillnot holding charge

looks like the battery is finished you had better take it to a good tech to have it checked out or take it back to where it came from

i think your battery place has something wrong so the electric can go or there is some space between battery and laptop

There is a possibility that if the battery is shorting out it won't hold the charge or let it power up.

From what you describe and assuming the new battery was "new", I'd say you have an internal short which is draining the battery over a short period of time. I'm assuming you gave the battery a "commissioning charge" when you bought and used it?
If not, this is something you should do with all new LI batteries. This bit is reproduced from a website that sells batteries for the Toshiba satellite series:

Is the AC Power adapter the original adapter of the laptop? If it is, try to drain the battery and charge it for 8-12 hours without using or opening the laptop just charge it. After charging, remove the power adapter as you open your laptop. Make this way a habbit of using and charging your laptop to make the charging and battery life last long.

it could be possible that changing the dc jack at the back may fix the problem however it could be a faulty new battery as ive had a few copies (not original) which would work for a week or so then die or others which wouldnt work at all, i finaly splashed out on a new original battery and it hasnt let me down and i bought it over a year ago.

fiddle with the power cable when in the back of the laptop if no light comes on saying the cable is in then you need new cable or new port or if the cable powers the laptop but the laptop battery is generally wont hold its charge n dies then you need a new bettery

May be a bad battery or charger.You said new contact toshiba for a replacement.RICHARDM69

brand new, deffectibe motherboard, bad charger or bad dc socket.

used, change it.
