I just bought a 17' Toshiba L350 laptop, but the DVD Player won't work. It says ''The specified drive can not be located''. And it's not like the DVD player is not an external driver. It's a push-the-button and the tray pops out kind of thing. Also, we bought the computer brand new, but it did not come with any disks. Can anyone help? Thank you.

Hi it sounds like the laptop is not recognizing the drive. Many laptops have removable DVD drives, so it may not be correctly seated. Try turning the laptop off and see if you can release the catch underneath and reseat the drive
Cheers

Hi There! I had the same issue happen to me before too. I understand your frustration & how you feel.
The dvd player board has probably been damaged. Most likely hit hard on the ground or object. Very rare that the board isn't connected inside.

Can i replace a toshiba l355-s7901 motherboard with a toshiba l355-s7915 motherboard

Going out on a limb here, but I'm going to state yes, except the s7901 has hot keys in the center strip under the LCD screen. Above the Keyboard, where the Power On button is located. The s7915 doesn't.

Toshiba Satellite l355-s7901,

You can click on the photos towards the bottom to enlarge.

Toshiba Satellite l355-s7915,

http://www.notebookcheck.net/Toshiba-Satellite-L355-S7915.19879.0.html

Same with the photos at the bottom.

I know this doesn't seem like a very professional answer/solution, but in viewing both of the laptops the ports, (USB, DC Power Jack, etc.), and the peripherals, (DVD optical drive, add-in card drive, etc.), seem to be in the same place.

Viewing a Service Manual for the Toshiba Satellite l350 series of Notebook PC's, shows removal procedures to be the same across the board, no matter what model deviation it is.
As long as it's one of the Satellite l350 series.

http://www.tim.id.au/blog/tims-laptop-service-manuals/#toc-toshiba

Go down to the second Satellite file header. The one that starts with Satellite A10.
Now go down to the second line, and then go across to L350, and click on it.

This is a PDF file. May take up to 30 seconds before you see the first page, and additional time to fully download.

Do I know for a fact they will interchange? No, I do not.
I'm willing to bet strongly that they will.

Toshiba Satellite som of the keyboard is not

Either the ribbon wire from the keyboard to the mainboard has come loose, or the keyboard is going bad. Or if you mean special media buttons that are not standard, Toshiba may provide a utility on their support website that you can download to make those buttons work.

Toshiba L350 series laptop shows "windows failed to start" screen when booting up & goes to a completely blank screen afterwards. Tried using recovery cd & can't get C prompt to come up. Need...

Shut down the laptop, make sure that no light is lit up. Before booting it back up, press and hold the F12 button. It will lead you to boot options. Open up your DVD drive and insert Disc 1 of recovery then make sure you select the ODD or the dvd drive to boot up. This will start the recovery process.

Other models has Icons for boot options. Make sure you select the single disc option to boot the ODD.

Hope this helps.

On my Toshiba Satellite a205-s4707 dvd player not working

Allright this one can be tricky so we need to isolate the problem between software and hardware.

First, get into the bios and see it's being detected.

If not then turn off the computer and unscrew the drive from the laptop, MAJORITY of laptops only need to have one screw unscrewed to release the drive. If yours doesn't then you'll have to do a little more work, let's just assume you have the majority for now.

Next, pull the drive out, feel free to give the back connector a quick puff of air, now carefully place the drive back into the laptop so that it's nice and tight.

Check to see if that solves your problem.

If not we'll try something else.
