Philips is out of stock of these - I would try finding them secondhand on eBay or any place that sells broke players with good accessories. You can look at the product specs on the charge and go to Radio Shack, and see if they have something that might work:
A multi-voltage, AC/DC + USB Adapter - very hard to come by indeed.

If you haven't already tried, do a reset by pressing and holding [UP] & [PLAY/PAUSE] then try connecting again.

If this still doesn't help then the hard disk is probably faulty.

The PSA615 has a rechargeable battery, which can only be charged from the supplied mains adaptor. It wonn't charge from the computer.
