I have the same machine. I am currently experiencing a similar problem. The machine reads cd's, vcd's, but it will not read dvd's. Commercially purchased dvd's. The problem is not a format problem, not a zone problem. The dvd's work in other machines, so it is not a dvd problem. If anyone has any ideas, please respond. Thank you.
I have the same issue. Just happened a couple of days ago. Have tried the region adjust but I don't think it's that coz it used to play all types of dvd from all different regions. Has anyone figured this out? would appreciate it if someone could email me at [email protected]. thanks.I have the same issue. Just happened a couple of days ago. That,s because it is either a homemade one or it was recorded in a different format ! When you have a dvd player read the manual to see which dvd,s it accepts ,alot of the time theese players don,t read the dvd,s that are of a differnt playing format , check the dvd,s that are popular ,like any rented ones from blockbuster , most machines today will accept dvd/dvdr/dvdrs/dvdrw IF your dvd is of the dvdrw type the rw stands for rewritable and can be used in your computer and most cheaper dvd players will not read theese so the NO DISC screen you are experiencing is most likely a disc that your player cannot read , hope this helps Sincerely Glenn mayer

It probably is not reading the disc. If it's a game the disc could be damaged, check it for any kind of rings on disc. Or the "eye" that the playstation reads the disc with could be dirty. If it's a burned DVD then alot of times the PS2 will not read those if the burned DVD is not formatted correctly.
Hello
There are mainly three motors for most of the DVD players. One to spin the disc we insert in, other to load the laser pickup unit to-and-fro inside it to read the disc and an other one to load the tray mechanism 'in-out'. According to your description, the disc spins inside, and you can hear its spin. So motor which spins the disc has no trouble at all I should say. Then comes to the second motor that moves the laser assembly inside it. If it do not work, the laser pickup unit won't move and no reading will take place and 'No Disc' display will be the result. The last chance is with Laser Pickup Unit itself. Just get this unit repaired by any well experienced service technician or by the authorised service center, because, there are special tools to open this unit. As it is a compactable one, more care should be given to it while repairing. Suspect the second motor I described earlier, and the Laser Pickup Unit. OK.
hello i have had the same problem this maybe because of the region that your dvd is made to play.different dvd players play different.region dvd the regions should be on the dvd and the dvd cover.
This of course may not be the exact same thing, but mine did the same thing. Sounding like it was loading, but in fact pressing the open button it I could see the disc not spining at all (normally you would.) With the power off of course. I took all the bottom screws out (where ever the arrow points to a screw) including to the display. There is one ribbon cable easily disconnected. I lifted the mount the DVD sits on and reseated it. I put a disc in it, turned on the power and the disc turned. Great I thought. I reconnect the cable, put the screws back in - and its working.
