SOURCE: dvr

I printed out Mike Adams solution and phoned 2 electronic repair shops who refused to listen to how my machine could easily be repaired. The third said to bring in the info and my machine. He quickly located the part and replaced it and my machine is 100%. Thanks Mike!!

Previous voltage failure

Hello,

Did you install any new hardware prior to this message appearing? Like a new video card? If so, the power supply could be overloaded. If not, the PSU could be failing. You can also open up the case and check the motherboard for blown capacitors (do a Google image search for blown capacitors to see what they look like). If the caps are bulging, the motherboard needs to be replaced. Depending on the manufacturer you can also run a diagnostic to determine the issue. Most of the large PC makers (Dell/HP/etc) have their own method/software for diags.

Vhs tape is stuck and message reads "tape

Unplug the TV/VCR/DVD Combo from the main power for a couple of minutes, the unit may eject the tape at the power ON.
You can also try openening the unit, reset the loading posts and eject the tape by manually turning gears, motors etc..You have to know what you're doing otherwise, you will do more damage or get injured and don't forget HIGH VOLTAGE CAN KILL.

The machine has HELLO but will not start up. if i hold the on/standbye for a few seconds, the time will appear and then back to hello when I press play. All I did was put a tape in which I can not now...

Hello everyone having problems with there RCA DRC8335. If you are getting the HELLO sign and nothing else(which i was too).
First you have to find the blown capacitor. All the capacitors should have a flat top. If you find one that is not flat and if gets hot to the touch when your vhs/dvd player has power you found your source. Next unplug your dvd/vhs player and take out the blown capacitor. Do not waste your money tring to get it fix by a so call pro. The parts you need is less than .55 cents(lol). Now the capacitor that you take out should have a code number(mine was c226) which is located in the same area as the blown part. Measure the capacitor and call for your part number 1-800-344-4539 Digi-key.com will find the part you need(only if u know what part u need)
1.find the blown capacitor
2.remove it
3.get the number below the blown capacitor
4. measure it.
5.call for your part number
6.put your hard earn dollar(not dollars) to work
7.and you can say Thanks Maximilian Moore for saving me money

Unit just gets stuck at Hello sign. Reset unit several times. Unplugged and replugged unit, but didn't fix problem. No menu items display on TV. Unable to open DVD tray. Unable to play or record VHS tape....

You have a blown capacitor in your machine. If you are good with a soldering iron, great, you can fix it yourself. Otherwise, find a friend who is good with a soldering iron. Parts should cost you less than $2 for a new capacitor. Replaced the blown capacitor in my machine, and my tape popped out with no fuss once I powered the system back up.

Dead power supply.

Faulty power-supply symptoms:

The front panel display and buttons are completely nonfunctional and appear dead. The unit will do nothing more than display the following messages on the TV screen:

Interface error
(and or)
Interface error! Turn off the power

If a DVD or VHS tape was inserted prior to the error occurring, you won't be able to eject either from that point further. They'll remain stuck inside the unit until you've completed the repair detailed below.
