Standard J-Bass wiring is parallel. Not series.

To run the pickups in series, the ground of one pickup would feed into the hot of the next. That's not what comes from the factory.

this shows the proper location of the two different caps and the resister, but the rest of the wiring should be stock Strat wiring (the owner of the guitar in this pic says there is a wiring problem- so don't necessarily follow everything...but the caps and resister are correct).
