I know that you had a chat about this matter, and I hope that your issue was solved. However, I had made a note of it when I saw the chat go through. I was unable to help at that time, but remembered having seen something of this nature and wanted to follow through on it.

Again, if your issue has already been solved, congratulations. Otherwise, I hope that the information provided here will be of use to you, either in fixing the equipment problem yourself (perhaps with a BIOS update) or by convincing HP to do something about it. If you haven't tried it yet, pull the battery out and try booting from the adaptor only.
If it boots normally, then your battery pack may be bad (shorted cell) or the regulator that has the job of charging and monitoring the battery pack while keeping your system running may not be healthy.
If you own any multimeter (at the cost of Chinese DMMs, everyone should own one), check the battery pack for charge.
Under normal conditions, they should measure a couple of percent higher than their rating.
You will have either Lithium Ion or Nickle metal hydride batteries in the pack so should measure some multiple of the nominal cell voltage of one of those types that are respectively 3.6 & 1.2 volts.

Sounds like something to do with a power saving feature either from HP itself or from Windows. It could also be that for some reason your computer is overheating, which it than shuts itself off to protect the processor. I would try playing with your power saving features, and cleaning out the fans.
