Netgear wpn 111 on windows xp - "connection failed firewalled"

Trying to connect a windows xp Dell to existing apple wireless network in the house.   Software installed fine -  computer scans and finds the network but says "can't connect" - keeps running through channels.  Icon on the screen has a red x and says "firewalled"
Tried to change firewall settings - made an exception for Netgear.
used the netgear software to set up rather than the windows install wizard
Can anyone help??????

When I try to run the Dell Wireless Configuration Utility from the control panel I get the following error message:"The wireless network adapter could not be accessed. This application may have diminished...

Well Sir in this case i will advice you to disable the Dell Wireless Configuration Utility and instead use windows utility for a successful connection.

For disabling dell configuration utility follow these steps:-
1)Open dell Wlan utility , it will have five tabs at the top labeled wireless networks , link status , site monitor , diagnostics and information.
2)Click on wireless networks tab and uncheck the first option which says , "Let this tool manage your wireless network" then click ok or apply at the bottom right-hand side corner of the screen.

To Enable Windows Utility for Windows XP follow these steps:-
1)Open the Control Panel from the Start Menu.
2)From Control Panel click on network and internet connections and then open network connections from there.
3)Right-click Wireless Network Connection and choose Properties.
4)
Click on the Wireless Networks tab and if unchecked , then check the box for Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings. Then click OK.
5)Right-click on Wireless Network Connection, Select View Available Wireless Networks.
6)
This will lists all the available wireless networks in range. Select your network from the list and click Connect.
7)If you are connecting to a secured wireless network, you will be prompted for a Network key. Type the Network key(which is the password for the wireless network) and then click connect.
8)Your network list should now display your connection status. If you are connected and your router is setup for internet access, you are ready to connect to the Internet wireless.

Airlink ar430w not giving a network address to netgear wpn111

Try assigning the IP address manually. To do so go to Network Connections, right click on the wireless connection and click on Properties, select Internet Protocol TCP/IP and click on Properties again. Select use the following IP address and type the address of the same range as of your Router's IP. In case you do not know the range try 192.168.1.5 or 172.16.1.5 with the subnet mask as 255.255.255.0 for both, and when you use the IP as 192.168.1.5 use the default gateway as 192.168.1.1 and for 172.16.1.5 use the default gateway as 172.16.1.1 Also select the lower option as "Use following DNS Server address" and for 192.168.1.5 use 192.168.1.1 and for 172.168.1.5 use 172.16.1.1 .Click on Ok. Click on Ok again and now check for the connectivity.
