Usually there are 2 types of wireless connections, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Your laptop may not be able to connect to one of these connections, so it may be incompatible with your router. You can try buying a USB networking card (no more than $20). It will plug into one of your USB ports and should allow you to connect to your router. Hope this helps!
modem to router to wireless router if you want (plug the wireless from a regular port to a regular port in first router, do not use the uplink port. from either router - run to any computer you want.
Get Network Magic to help you setup and manage your network.
Free to download and evaluate period ... read details while there ... It is a great manager program
If you can access the router setup page, the best way to boost the signal is to change the wireless channel on the router setup page to a higher channel so the signal will be strong...
You can try first to reset the router, by pressing the reset button for 30 seconds using a pen while power is ON then after that just run the setup CD for it to reconfigure the router and if it failed to reconfigure the router, better for you to contact Linksys tech support and have teh router replace since it has 3 year warranty, this is the number 8003267114 they are open 24/7...
The router only needs some reconfiguration and its still not bad, since you're having prblem with it and since the router is still under Linksys warranty better call them so one of their tech support will be able to walk you through in making this router work again, This is the number for Linksys 800-3267114 you can call them any time of the day...
You can try changing the wireless network name or ssid, change the wireless channel to 11 and enable WPA as the wireless security.Just open IE then type http://192.168.0.1 on the address usernama is admin and password is password then do the changes there.
You are safe as long as you have all the security measures enabled on your router. What you are seeing is people that are in close anough range that has their own wireless network also. Mine will pick up as far as 5 houses away from where I live at. There are several here. Hope this answers your question?
