You don't need a magnet. You verify that the defrost timer is running if not replace it then you verify that the heating element is working or that the thermal cutoff is working if not replace those. No manual or schematic required.

SOURCE: My MW refrigerator, model HMG-19854,

Hi Edmund,
I think what you are experiencing is that the compressor will not start every once in a while. The compressor has developed what I call a "flat spot". If it happens to stop at a particular spot in the rotation it will not start to spin again. However after it get "bumped" a number of times...ie. the overload kicks in and out trying to start it. the motor then moves just enough each time so that after awhile it will run again till it stops at this spot again.
The motor you hear running is the fan inside but I think on further examination you will find that the compressor is not actually running when it is not cooling.

I hope that I have not confised you with theis explaination. It is a bit hard to communicate effective in this way.

Bottom line is that at some point the compressor motor just will cease to work and you will have to replace it.

I have a kitchen aid two sided refrigerator model #KSRB27FHSS04.The freezer part always iecing up, change the thermostat about 3 weeks ago. The fridge part still is not cooling like it should.

Yes I see the panel is covered in frost indicating a failed defrost heater and defrost thermostat. If you changed the timer then you have two more components that need to be replaced=> The 2188175 Defrost Heater Assembly and the=> 2196155 or W10225581 Defrost Thermostat Here is a KSRB27FHSS04 pats manual for your model and the parts are located behind the panel in your photo. Parts are listed on page 17 of the parts manual. You will need to defrost freezer before you will be able to see or replace these parts. Unplug and remove that rear panel and use a hair dryer to melt the ice blocking airflow on the evaporator. Please send another photo of the ice once you get rear cover off in back of the freezer

How do I defrost bottom freezer on my Kenmore French door bottom freezer

A note about your problem: If your freezer is sealing itself properly you should not have a frost problem. Most models self-defrost the small amount that builds up when you open it. I would check for door-drawer gasket leaks... I recently posted a fix for this and will repeat it here for you.

We recently purchased a new Kenmore French Door (side by side upper doors and bottom drawer freezer) and have had nothing but problems keeping frost-ice and dripping water (condensation on the ice maker) under control in both the top as well as the freezer section. Also, If I put a bright flashlight inside the fridge, closed the doors in a dark room, I could actually see light escaping from the doors and the freezer in several places. (use a mirror in difficult places.)

Warranty service on the unit has not helped with the technician using a heat gun to reform the gaskets in several places. They also replaced the metal slide rails in the freezer which helped a bit but did not solve the whole problem. I was also told that new gaskets come folded so much that we would be worse off than the ones currently in our fridge.

I searched the web for a solution and some even suggested adding (YUCK) petroleum jelly to the gasket. I would only try that as a last resort.

My successful fix was to add HEAVY DUTY magnetic tape to the metal fridge surface where the door seal tries to seat. This is not your typical box-store tape so don't think they are all created equal.

Part of the reason why this works is that most door gaskets have a magnetic strip inside them. My problem solution works well because the gasket and the tape strips attract each other and the magnetic tape also adds a bit more thickness to the fridge side of the equation.

Source for the magnetic tape: Amazon... just search for... Master Magnetics - B005HYDC68 Roll-N-Cut Flexible Magnetic Tape Refill - 1/16" Thick x 1/2" Wide x 15 feet. (1 roll), 07518.

With the tape installed, our frost-ice buildups and water drips (around the upper ice maker section) as well as all the light leaks have been eliminated. best of luck.7a8b03bf-f7fd-422e-b225-e5b27bcba581.jpg

10-2-22 update:
Our model 11175039120 bottom freezer unit has two defrost drains under the evaporator coil (remove back cover in freezer compartment). The right drain is TOTALLY BLOCKED with insulation foam and a plastic panel of some sort put in by Kenmore. This causes a constant lake of water/ice to form under the evaporator coil with ice filling the evap. fins putting excess water on both circulation fans during defrost cycle causing them to vibrate and\or freeze up and STOP during the next freeze cycle. This fan motor freeze-up gets worse as the fan motors age and let more high-humidity air inside them to freeze. 4681JB1027C Refrigerator Evaporator Fan Motors are available on Amazon and fit (you will need to solder original electrical connectors) perfectly. Kenmore fan motors (if you can get them) are about 150.00 each. Amazon fans are less then 30.00 each.

Still trying to figure out how to clear out the right defrost drain.

Great going Kenmore! A design or assembly flaw that does wonders for your reputation.

How do you clean the condenser in Frigidaire side by side model FRS26R4AW5?

You first need to see if there is frost building up on the rear panel inside your freezer. This may be a defrost issue so I need you to at the least have a look to see if any frost is building like in this=> PHOTO You may also need to remove the rear panel of your freezer to expose the frost buildup as seen in this=> PHOTO
If you find frost building like the examples I listed the problem will be the Adaptive Defrost Control listed as part location 23 in the photo=> HERE
The adaptive defrost control board can be found here=> FRS26R4AW5 Defrost Control Board
12_5_2012_7_13_14_am.jpg

The defrost heater is part location 14 and the defrost thermostat is listed as part location 21 found in the exploded view of the evaporator section=> HERE The next most likely parts to fail are the=> 5303918255 Defrost Heater Assembly

and the=> 5303918214 Defrost Thermostat

How to test these parts can be found in the tutorial found on the same pages. Below is a link to=> HVAC Refrigerator Coil Cleaning
I will be here should you have questions, Thanks

Fridge is cold, freezer is not

Please look into the freezer for frost build-up on the rear wall. If you are having a defrost problem it may limit the freezer temperature and still be cold enough for the fresh food section to remain at safe temperatures but not for long before freezer and fresh food section warms because frost blocks airflow and the evaporator is unable to keep everything cold because of frost build-up. I don't have your model number so I will list the parts that may need to be replaced. The defrost control=> 12002754 Frost Kit, defrost thermostat and 67002493 Defrost Heater Assembly

67003426 Defrost Thermostat

For testing of the defrost thermosat and defrost heater refer to the same page as the parts, If these parts are good the the 12002754 Frost Kit, could be defective. The 12002754 Frost Kit,
can be found in the control panel inside the fresh food compartment. Let me know if you have questions and also if you are not having a defrost problem, Thanks Sea Breeze

Freezer won't stay shut

If you want a part number for the replacement door gasket please provide a complete model number here so I can give that to you or you can look it up yourself at www.searsdirect.com You must have your model number. (sample 110.XXXXX etc)

The magnet is inside the door seal itself. If the seal is damaged replacement is your only option.

Need to replace door seal on Dometic NDR 1292 model that is 10 yrs. old. Freezer is nothing but frost! How would I know how to get one? Thank you. Kirk

Many of the on-line appliance parts stores have manuals. Simply search for your model refrigerator, and they will show you exploded views of your refrigerator. You can pick the part you need and order it.

Just because the freezer is full of frost doesn't mean the door seal is bad. More likely, you have a problem with the defrost circuit. If you defrost the freezer, and it freezes up again within a short time, then the problem is in your defrost circuit. Those same on-line appliance parts stores can provide you with those parts as well.

Freezer/refrigerator compressor running constantly

th ebi-metal is a thermostat which shuts the defrost heater on/off, but doesnt actually put the unit into defrost. if it were bad the defrost heater would never go on resulting in massive build up of ice on back wall of freezer, and noticable refrigeration sect. cooling.. dont know how you know the compressor never shuts down, but if that the case perhaps you have a sealed system/ freon issue. try removing the back panel of freezer section and check the evaporator coil. you shuld have an even frost pattern over the entire evap coil. if theres just frost over the top 1or 2 coils, and the rest of coil is shiny aluminum , thats an indication of a sealed system issue.( 5 year part warr by manufacture) def not a do it yourself issue...but that would,, depending on extent of restriction/loss of freon,, cause freezer to freeze and defrost eratically, and the compressor would be running constantly trying to achieve a good stable temp
