I have a terrible installation error with my Gateway NV44 laptop. I had recently installed Windows 8.1 on my laptop and it was fine besides the fact that I had to get my drivers back. So eventually one week later I went on Gateway's site and started getting my drivers back. It was going well until I got to the first wireless driver update, which would be: "Wireless LAN Driver (HB93)" and after I installed that driver it demanded a reboot which I proceeded to do. My laptop starts up and I get the blue crash screen. Computer restarts and loads up again, crashes again. Restarts again, crashes again. It got to a point where as soon as that screen popped up it IMMEDIATLEY restarts, like a boot-loop almost. At this point I got fet up. I asked my friend to burn his windows 8 from his disk onto a USB key so I could re-install it on my computer. Knowing Windows 8.1 is glitchy I decided lets just stick with Windows 8. But my computer just got worse. I proceeded to the installation and selected custom so I could format my laptop and start from scratch. I format it and select it, error message appears beside the "NEXT" button stating something like, "Can't create or locate partition..." which I didn't know what it meant. I looked up videos on the internet to fix this problem and the most useful procedure people have found was the command prompt and directly making a partition from there. I followed that, STILL didn't work. I removed all devices except the installation USB, STILL didn't work. I have called Microsoft to help me with this and the only support they could give me was to contact Gateway but I don't have product warranty on my laptop anymore, seeing how it was given to me by my Uncle. And personally I don't want to pay for a warranty to fix my computer that broke from drivers Gateway provided on their site

If I understand what your problem is...
I had the same problem, it was a caused by bad Windows XP install CD.
Call Gateway and explain the situation, you may need to have a magnifying glass handy to read the tiny engraved lettering in the center of the CD disk.
Have your 'Product Key' available.
If you have some kind of sales receipt, or other "Proof of Purchase" have it handy too.
You will need to tell them, you do not have the program installed on other computers.
They can send you another disk.
This method will only work if you have a legal copy of the program.

If you are facing this issue while installing Windows, Most probably there is an issue with the memory card. If you have two memory modules try to use one of the memory modules in each slot at a time. If you have only one memory stick then try to use it one by one on each slot. If you it does not work then probably you might have to replace the memory stick.
Hope you find this information helpful.

Can give me more detail how to fix the problem
Get online
and got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "Gateway
Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support).
Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating
system when requested. Download and install the Network drivers.
If
the above does not solve the problem, try this: Turn the laptop off,
remove the power cord, remove the battery, then remove the cover that
houses the wireless on the bottom of the laptop. Remove the two antenna
wires from the wireless card (make sure you remember which one goes
where), remove the wireless card from the slot (you might have to remove
1 or 2 screws that hold it in place. After 20 seconds but it all back together and reboot the computer.
