This exact same thing happened to me, it can be a number of problems. You might not have enough battery charge to get the car going since the fuel pump in this car is electronic, my car did not start but when i took it to a mechanic thinking the battery was perfect because lights and all were on they jump started it and it started then immediately died, i also had a choke pull off failure, leaks in my carburetor, and the float was to heavy causing flooding. 185 dollars later and a rebuilt carburetor my car had a smooth idle and turned on immediately after turning ignition. but then to find out my alternator was bad hence the battery only having enough power for the radio and lights.so in short try jumping the car even though the battery seems good, check your carb or get it checked by a mechanic, then check if your alternator is ok. if i waited for two days without attempting to start car then trying it would start if i held the ignition and pushed the gas pedal down until it started. (see if thats the case for you) my guess is you carb, battery, and alternator.

It is definately the starter. The starter has gone bad.

Go get a replacement.

Good luck.

My 2006 chevy trailblazer 2wd 6cyl wont start. makes clicking noise, then nothing lights/radio etc work but wont start what is it

You got a jump and it ran fine? It's your battery. The lights and radio are much easier for a battery to handle than spinning a car engine. Again, if all you needed was a jump, you have a bad battery.

What is wrong when you turn the key to start and the radio and all the instruments turn on but the starter doesn't click and the engine doesn't turn on even after trying to jump start it

Dead battery

Dangerous practice to try & jump a dead battery

The battery cables could be loose at either end or corroded internally

Most likely the battery is worn out, if original to car
since it was new, or the starter solenoid is worn

You do not want to jump any vehicle made after the
year 2000 or your asking for possible problems with
todays electronics.

You need a good battery that has been tested & fully
charged, then only jump with a jump pack, not another car

06 pontiac grand prix wont start no clicking when you turn the key over even jump starting the battery, has dash lights & radio & parking lights. battery tested good. put a used starter & altinator on

Used parts such as starters and altinators don't last. It might **** but it sounds like you need to buy a new starter, altinator, and battery. Or just start with buying one at a time.

2000 wont start just makes a single click when you turn the key. all lights, radio, windows.. work

First try to jump start. This helps us troubleshoot. If the car will jump start, we suspect the battery terminals are loose or need cleaning. If it will not jump start, then we check the starter, fuse/relay, and ignition switch.

1991 cadillac eldorado, car wont turn over and makes clicking noises. How do I know if its the starter or a specific part on the starter going out? When you turn the key the headlights and dash lights,...

1st make sure your connections at battery and starter are clean and tight. Next pull the battery out and have a parts store check it's condition. Even though the lights and radio work, it may be too weak to crank the engine over. If the battery checks out ok, then you are probably correct, it's the starter. Check in this order though, so you don't waste $ on parts you don't need. You don't want to pull the starter out to find it was a weak battery, or a bad connection (dirty or loose connection would prevent jump start from working.)

Car wont start

Does the battery have enough capacity to turn over the engine though? Even flat car batteries will still power the radio. The best way would be to jump start the car uing a set of jumper leads. If it starts you know it is the battery that needs replacing.

If it still wont turn over then it is most likely the solenoid in your starter motor. You can often tap the starter motor with a hammer and free the solenoid as a temporary fix. The starter motor is loacted at the back of the engine on the bell housing if rear wheel drive, or around the tranmission if a front wheel drive.
