Check the drain pump, lean the machine at a 45 degree angle against the wall. Your drain pump is black, has 1 ground wire, and a power quick disconnect. there is a little clip that you pull back, then rotate the pump counter clockwise until it pops out. You will have water coming out, so drain as much as possible before doing this. Shop vac comes in handy. F&P washer drain pumps have to functions, drain, and re-circulation. When it fills then stops, its trying to recirc, but can't. It may just be a penny or dime in the impeller. If you can't find debris in the pump, ohm out the two leads on the pump, should read 6.5 - 7. replace if anything different.

Washer died after filling

it is quite possible that it could be a lid switch that would be my first guess but may also be a faulty motor or control board hard to say just yet, could you please post up the make and model of your machine as this will help me narrow down the issue, thanks

Water fills the tub then nothing happens.

it does not aggitate? Thats the cycle that allows the water to wash the clothes. It may be broken, I have had that happen a couple times. I would take the aggitator off and see if the teeth in the groves are worn out, It happen's when used alot. Commen problem and easy to replace.
