When you bought it, you should have been a radio code and instructions on how to re-activate the security feature in the radio. If you don't have the code or instructions a dealer can get the code using your vin #.
That's strange, I was under the impression that after 02, most, if not all radios were coded to prevent theft. Well, I'm not right all the time! You can check the hot lead from the radio and see if there's an additional in-line fuse or, some have a fuse inside the radio as well (usually a 3a) Id also run a direct hot lead to the battery power lead on the radio and check that the radio is OK as well. You do have a factory radio right?
Sorry about the code thing. I hope this helps.

If
the starter dims the lights noticeably when activated the starter is the culprit.
If it got stuck and ran with the engine the bearing will cease and the starter
will not turn. Dry bendix and or bearings will prevent starter to swing. If the
rotor is touching the field coils it will short and will not turn.

I entered the wrong year! It is actually a 2003!
I called the dealership and was informed that THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A RADIO CODE ON A 2003 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE.
Yes I do. I am wondering if the lady at the dealership was mistaken? She had commented that she had never even heard of a radio lock on a Jeep, so she could be wrong!
What is a hot lead?
It's an '09...have the dealer fix it!!!! You pay for that when you buy it!!!
