Question about 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland
IT IS THE WIRING TO THE TRANS, THE FLUID HAS GOT UP INTO IT AND CAUSING YOUR PROBLEM, SEEN IT TWICE!

Same thing for me as well. I completely yanked the starter out and tested it on the bench, working starter. Tested the yellow wire with the VDC meter to see that I was getting 12V with ignition key engaged. Sure enough. Tossed the starter back in and started right up.
This issue came up out of the blue, not one warning it was not going to start. My advice to you is have someone hold the key engaged to start and then short the yellow wire metal and red wire stud on the starter with a screwdriver. If it starts, you have a corroded wire connection. Clean it and smack the di-electric grease right to it and be on your way for a few dollars.

I know it sounds weird but it has nothing to do with your transmission... Its the cars anti theft system which is triggered by a worn out key or a glitch in the system, had to have my 2007 jeep grand Cherokee towed this morning, an all they had to do was reprogram my anti theft system. Also made a new key with the remote(only way it will work since it has a required chip in it to start the jeep) just for precaution. SO DON'T REPLACE ANYTHING..... Until you at least haver a DEALER make a new key and reprogram your car.....
FYI the cost for the repair and tow and key was 280.

I'm having the same problem. Happened last summer (two new starters) and just last week. Last summer they replaced a leaking seal in a line to the transmission and said the fluid was low. The other day I noticed (before it was towed) that the transmission cooler line was very wet, and it was wet under the passenger side of the engine. Could it be that the fluid leaks out enough so that when I drive it a half-mile, the fluid gets warm enough to kick in the overtemp sensor, not letting the car start? Had no probs over the winter when it was cold. Took it out the first hot day In April and and the same old problem is back. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Hi I have an 07 GC laredo 3.7. This happened to me last summer just out of the blue, I sent jeep to service and they said the starter wire was corroded, its been fine since until yesterday and bam I am stuck again and calling for a tow truck. Dash says same thing "Trans over temp" its almost 1 year to the date of when it did it last year. So its been towed and is at service garage now. I hope to get it back today and this does not require several hundred bucks to fix. Both times my jeep had been parked for a couple days or yesterday it was parked like 5 hours and not driven. It has just turned 88,000. When I get it back this time I will repost and tell you what they did this time. I like my jeep and I really take care of it, however this type of thing where you are just stranded with no warning is not acceptable at all, then the issue of trying and trying to figure out what is wrong. My son also has a jeep but he has the 5.7 Hemi and it is nothing but a huge electrical problem. I will never again buy another jeep, in fact I may just sell it cause as I said this type of issue in totally unacceptable in every possible way. Good luck to all and I will let you know what I find out this time.

I had this problem in Dec 2012 and they replaced the starter. It happened again on the same date in 2013. (Coincidence?) The shop found a service bulletin that stated this was a common issue with 2007 Jeep V6's with the same mileage as mine (around 115k). The fix was to reflash the onboard computer to default settings. They also updated the computer's software. It was worked fine since then. The tech advised that if it happens again that I can take it to any automotive parts store and have them reset the computer's factory defaults - probably at no cost.
