I have a GE Hotpoint refrigerator, Model CTF19ECB, serial number 503293, probably manufactured in April 1983. Its capillary line has sprung a leak, probably from rubbing against the condenser outlet line. I am going to repair the leak, but have a question. The compressor has a single valve on its body, and rhe schematic says it is the "Service valve". The valve is threaded in the inside, and is operated by by a hex-headed stem which is inside the female threaded body. The hex-head seems to have female splines at the corners, and I wonder if it takes a special tool to operate the valve.I also don't understand what the valve does. Can I operate it in a way that lets me evacuate the refrigerant, or add refrigerant, or admit nitrogen during the braze-repair of the capillary line? There is a tag on the compressor that says TBF17PC-27. Another tag says GE thermally protected PC-26.

Cut off a piece of line and go to a good hardware store, they can show you how to fix it. Need a coupling, and a nut and ferrel. House water line goes on one end of coupling, nut and ferrel on the broken water line on fridge. A good hardware store will be able to show you how to fix.

SOURCE: Capillary tube replacement

The True TSSU-60-16 uses an oversized (134A) refrigeration system with air flow directed at the pans.... if the capillary tube is plugged it will NOT cool at all.. most of the time a restriction (plug) is at the drier where the capillary tube goes into it.. as it is smallest passage in the system...hope it helps

you need to defrost the fridge by switching it off for atleast 8 hrs.

Where do I find the model number on my Hotpoint

In the last few years GE has placed the models serial label on the top center, top left or top right of the fresh food section. Older models had it behind the fresh food door at the bottom or behind the grille. Also there were a couple of years they placed it behind or to the side of one of the lower drawers.

Sorry about all the different locations. That's just how they did it.

Look at the first two LETTERS of the serial number. According to the info I provided, your washer was manufactured in March of 2007 if its a fairly recent model.
