Copy your saved game folder to another location (Desktop?) and completely uninstall and then reboot and re-install the game you are having problems with. If this fails, try to get the disc replaced.

What exactly did Sony suggest? Did you shut down your system while a game was loading/saving? They give warnings not to do that for this exact reason, it corrupts the data on the HD and makes it unreadable.
have you checked if its similar to your region ? for instance if your Xbox uses Pal region supported games and you have an NTSC region Disc , it will probably say something like "disk is unreadable or region format is not supported "...thats the only conclution ive got in mind...that or the disc is plain empty or corrupted from the manufacturing company ? i hope it helps :)
It sounds like the disk isn't compatible with your Disk Drive or it's corrupted/unreadable, so try another disk and if it's a DVD? Make sure you are using a DVD ROM drive.
That error means the media you're trying to burn to is corrupt.
Try using a different empty disc.
If that still doesn't work, it may be that you drive needs cleaning.
If that does not solve the problem, it might be that you need a new CD/DVD drive.
