Microsoft Xbox 360 Hard Drive (20GB) Questions & Answers
Hi, my xbox 360 has
The red ring of death. You may be able to send it in to Microsoft to get it repaired, but otherwise, it's toast.
Have a Xbox 360 could hear but can't see picture
You can test this by removing the hard drive from the unit and restarting.
Most likely you are suffering from the rrod (red ring of death)
This is caused by many things, but in this case, it would be too much heat to the graphics processor. If your xbox is still under warranty, call microsoft and get it replaced.
if not, there is really nothing that can be done for a sure fire fix. There are a lot of people out there making fixes that dont last, so in the long run, its better to invest the money that you would spend on getting it fixed to buy a new one (if it is rrod).
You also want to make sure it's not your television. Try hooking the xbox up to a different tv if one is available, if not, try a different input on the same television, or try to hook up a different device to where the xbox is hooked into the tv... just to make sure the TV is in good working order.
I Am having blury games on my Xbox 360
There are many reasons for blurry screen on Xbox 360. If the problem is a particular game than, just try playing some another game. And if the problem is with all than the issue is most likely related to a setting on your television or to the connection between your Xbox 360 console and your television. You will want to make sure that AV cable is connected correctly to the Xbox 360 console and to the TV. Make sure that the AV cable is not loose or incorrectly seated in both the Xbox 360 console and the TV. Also, make sure that you have the correct AV cable for your TV.
Accidentally configured Hard drive as usb device,
When it was formatted as a 16g usb drive the hddss.bin was erased. That hddss file has the info that says is a original ms hdd. With out it no 360 will recognize it as a hard drive. if you didn't have a back up of that hddss.bin file you could inject a public hddss.bin from a similar (same size) 360 drive and problem fixed.
I connect hard drive but
Hello, and thanks for using FixYa.
the drive is plug in play, disconnect the drive, then turn on the console. Plug in the drive, the console should restart and it should be found. if it restarts but the drive is not found then the drive is either faulty or it has been editted somehow and no longer contains what is required for it to work on xbox.
You may use USB memory stick as a hard drive / memory device, just update to the latest version of software and you can use any usb stick up to 16GB with the console. this will be cheaper than buying a new drive.
Please let me know if you require further assistance or if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Ekse
Wen i start up
Hi,
I have had the same problem but all it was just a faulty connection on the hard drive connector which is inside the hard drives outer casing. You need to pull it apart then remove the internal hard drive, give it a quick clean then reassemble it and it should work fine again.
Thanks
Jason
Red light on box
Hi Mr .
1) Remove your hard drive and/or memory units.
2) Run "Initial Setup" under the system blade.
3) Decline inserting HDD or memory unit when prompted.
4) Sync your controller and pop in a game.
Accepte My Greetings
A red light has come on the lower right of the
if the unit was purchased less than three years ago you can still get it covered under warranty as addressed on
microsoft by clicking here. this is actually a serious problem and effects a few consoles, much like the RROD
if it is not under warranty you can try doing this and i stress the not. Make sure of this by calling microsoft before attempting this. if you do not want to do the overheat fix i suggest either A. find a company that fixes xbox's and provides a real reflow. Not a heatgun and a fan. But a actual infrared reflow station. or B. Send it to microsoft and pay the money to get it repaired. or C. sell it on your local craigslist or to someone that repairs them locally and use the money to buy a new xbox 360 slim or a used xbox 360 that is working but then someone might have already done the overheat trick and it may not have much life left.
i have done this before and after he 2nd time i sent it to a company to reflow the xbox for 30 dollars. An i havent had a problem since.
remember what is done in the video is only if your not covered under the extended warranty or e74
I just got a 120gig
Hi Keith,
the E68 error is common and basically there are many causes: internal connection problem, overheating, HD general failure.
You should try to disconnect the HD and see if your console works properly.
If yes then it's luckily related only to the HD and not affecting your 360 :)
If you get the same error also after HD removal, please advise me with few more details and we'll try to get rid of it.
Now, as you just bought it, i'm assuming you have warranty so i'd bring it right back to the store and ask for a new one or a refund.
Regards,
Peter
It pops up as error 69 on the xbox on the forth
E69: Hard Drive Error
Reading the HD Security sector failed: It could be a problem with the Hard Drive itself or a problem with the internal connection to the hard drive, Try removing the hard drive and playing without it
Xbox 360 will not read game disk
Your laser is most likely going bad. I repair game systems as one of my jobs, and that is one of the most common, easiest to replace, and one of the cheapest things to go wrong with a 360.
You may be able to clean off the lens, (If your not able to either replace it yourself, or have it replaced.) but to do it properly requires just about as much work as it does to replace the laser. You can try just giving a few quick bursts with a can of compressed air, but thats the only hope of doing anything without taking apart the Xbox.
***DO NOT use alcohol or one of those DVD Lens Cleaners!! The alcohol will remove the finish off the laser, and you'll only damage it faster. The Lens Cleaner, (With the little brushes) will only scratch up the lens more!***
E 68 error....will transfer cable help fix it?
The E68 is a weird error. Its normally from a hard drive failure. The underground xbox 360 scene says
THe E68 is a Hard Drive Error. The Hard drive is not properly configured: It could be a problem
with the Hard Drive itself or a problem with the internal connection to
the hard drive, Try removing the hard drive and playing without it.
If the xbox can play without the hard drive then this error can be caused by a problem with the fans that make them draw too
much power, it can also be caused if you have unnecessary accessories
attached to the console like an external fan unit. Attempt to remove
unnecessary accessories first, and then necessary components such as the
hard drive and USB devices.
If its the hard drive or your console causing the problems contact Microsoft they will probably fix your hard drive and maybe recover your game saves. On the newest games that info is stored on xbox live.

When i put my hard drive in it stays at the xbox
Try this when you have the xbox off hold the white sync button on the controller itself while holding the sync button press the center x box button to power on the xbox do not let go of the sync button until the xbox boots up it should take care of the bad install which it sounds like you have
Xbox 360 hard drive issues
Maybe the socket where you plug the hard drive into is dirty or broken. Try checking it out and have a close inspection!
