I have a Linksys wirless-G2.4 router but I bought a new one its a Linksys wirless-N gigabit Router WRT31ON .Do i delete the old one before i install the new .And what is a WEP key i am really confussed
There is nothing to Delete. Simply unplug the old and plug in the new. A WEP key is a way to ensure a small amount of encryption in the Wireless network. If the new Router has WPA - you should use that instead of WEP as the WIRELESS Encryption. There should be a "quick start guide" to help you install the new Router.

This is not the issue with particularly this router. first of all, change the security to WEP, and then create a new user account in your system. it would definitely give you the maximum possible transmission rate of data.
I'm assuming your new computer uses Win 7, so try opening Control Panel, Network and Sharing Center - then elect to set up a new wireless network. You should 'see' your wifi network - if not, then come back with that info & we'll take it from there...
To install that router is the same as any other linksys routers. Check this link http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=9017a6f6bece444dbb4a0746eb87682a_2210.xml&pid=96&slnid=10
first of all you need to check with your internet provider to see what modem you can use. a wirless 802.11g card (the farthest range) if your provider has a wirless modem i would get it from them. and a wirless modem/router. i use bellsouth wirless dsl and bought the equipment from them. if you have a wirless modem/ router already then you just need the card and configure it.
Yes, go to my network places, right click, select properties, then create new connection, the wizard will walk you through, don't forget you have to put in the type of encryption and the Key ,that may be why it's not working. When you set up your new connection, you can select home/office etc, also delete the old connection, as that will cause you problems.
Well ther should be a wirless icon on the botom right corner of your scren right click and say serch for avalibe wirless networks. find the one that is yours. it might ask for a WEP pssword which is on the botom of router. You might have to change some of the wirless adapter setings. just send me a mesage and i would be happy to help.
First reset the router by pressing the reset button for 15 seconds and after resetting it run the setup CD fo it to reconfigure the router, if you don't have the setup CD better contact Linksys tech support number and let a tech walk you through in manually configuring the router, this is the number for Linksys 800-3267114...........
