E8400 or Q6600

Hello.

I've decided to buy new cpu. But i can't choose, which is better E8400 or Q6600.. If it's important: motherboard Abit IP35P, RAM 4GB DDR2 1066MHz, Hard drive Seagate Barracuda ES 7200.10, video XFX GTX260. At the moment im using E8200. Will be any difference between E8200 and Q6600 or E8400. Thanks

I would go with the q6600 because it is the quad. BUT make sure it is compatable with the abit Ip35p here is a link to there compatablity chart.

Personally i have the q6600 which is a quad core processor, all the others you listed were dual core, personally i use alot of programs all at once which is good if you have a quad core, but just for general music, data, and streaming, the e8400 is probably better for you, its a 3ghz processor.

    what do you mean no software that can use a quad core? the cores are not software based, think of it like having 4 processors in your pc at once, it works with everything as long as your motherboard supports it

    yes there is lol. not any software has to support it, the cpu takes control and makes use of the software among the cores. the code in the software doesnt say weather or not to use what core. on xp you can even specify what core you want your program to run on.

Motherboard is the heart of the whole computer system. It is the part that connects all the other parts together and make sure they run smoothly. As such, choosing the best gaming motherboard is the most important task that you need to do when building a gaming computer. This article will teach you how to choose the best gaming motherboard.

Decide which type of CPU to use

This may seem irrelevant to choosing a motherboard. In actual fact, this is the most important thing you need to do before selecting a motherboard. The reason being that the type of CPU will determine the type of motherboard you need. For example, if you choose an Intel CPU, then you have to get the socket 775 motherboard or else the CPU won't fit into the motherboard. Deciding on the type of CPU will help you to make a better choice when choosing the best gaming motherboard.

Determine if the motherboard supports the type of CPU you have chosen

As mentioned before, if you are using an Intel CPU, you have to get a socket 775 motherboard whereas an AMD CPU requires a socket AM2 motherboard. In addition, some of the older socket 775 motherboards do not support dual core processors (even though they use the same socket) or even quad-core processors. Not every motherboard supports this feature. As video effects getting more and more advanced, it will be soon that SLI or Crossfire technology becomes the standard for video display. I have motherboard i845G with intel chipset i845GL , processor is Intel celeron@1800 MHZ. Ram is DDR SD256 MB Ram. Can I upgrade my RAM to DDR 2 1GB RAM.

No each type of ram is different, it wouldn't even fit in the slots, nevermind use it. To upgrade to a different type of ram you'll need to get a new motherboard. Unfortunately there aren't many motherboards that'll take your processor any more, unless maybe if you try to get a second hand one.

If I were you I'd think about building/buying one with a newer processor. If you decided to build one yourself, then you could get a new motherboard, ddr2 ram and a new cpu for about £150 and use the other components from your present system ie. case, dvd drives, hard drives, although you may have to get a new power supply if your current one can't supply enough power, that would add another £50 for a decent reliable one, go for a decent make like antec or ocz

Does the motherboard accept 1gig high definition ram chips

The Abit IS7 motherboard only supports DDR RAM. So if you're thinking of upgrading, do not purchase DDR2 or DDR3, because your motherboard will only support DDR memory, at a maximum of 4GB.

More importantly RAM will give you better performance, if your computer is low on ram it doesn't matter much what the cpu is.

I think any of the dual cores on that page will be a OK upgrade.

So if you upgrade your ram to 2GB and a Dual core 4800+ that should be good. but in the long run it might be smarter to upgrade to a new motherboard and even faster cpu, with DDR 2 memory, the memory ddr2 is really cheap these days.

Not switching ON

New Computer

Hi im David,

1. To start to buying a computer, you need a Standard ATX case, they sell only ATX cases so you can choose one at the shop that suits you. Then you might want to get a power supply because the pne that comes with the case will not supply enought power. You would want at least 550W. I recomment the Coolermaster 660W.

2. You will then need to think what Brand CPU your going to use. These days AMD is not making the best CPU's So i recommend Intel. Based on what you want to do and what the shop has, i would get the Dual Core E7200 (2.53 GHz 3MB Cache) or the E8400 (3.0GHz 6MB Cache). There is no point for buying a Quad core as it is expensive and not many games can use the full extent of the CPU.

3. Once chosen teh brand on the CPU you have to buy a Motherboard that supports the CPU, they only sell One type of Intel CPU and that the LGA 775 so any Intel Motherboard will work with your CPU. I would get Gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3 at $125. Dont bother buying anything higher than $155 unless you got the money and really need it. I psersonally use GA-EP43-DS3 because it has all the features i need like Dual Graphics (not SLI), 3 firewire connections, 12 USB ports, 7.1 Surround Sound, 6 SATA Ports and 4 ram slots.

4. Once gotten your motehrboard you will need RAM. They sell Kingstom and Corsair DDR2 Ram at speed of 800MHz. Corsair is a much better brand but you wont notice much difference between the two of them. 2GB is more than enought if your going to run XP but you will need 4GB for Vista. get 4X1GB and you will get faster speeds than 2X2GB.

5. Getting a Hard Drive. Depending what you are going to store on your Hard drive, you can get different sizes. The bigger the size the cheaper it is per gigabyte. I would get a 500GB. Western Digital and Samsung is quieter than Segate but isnt as fast in speed but you wont notice the difference. Make sure you get 3.5" or if u want you can get a 2.5" but it wont fit anywhere in your case so you will have to rest it soemwhere. It still can be plugged it to your motherboard. I use a 2.5: with my Desktop PC because it reduces noise.

6. Getting an optical Drive. Make sure you get a DVD Burner, they are only $40. YOu may consider getting a Blu-Ray Drive so you can watch Blu-ray movies on your cmputer or use your Computer as a Blu-ray player and plug it in your LCD TV. Blu ray will cost $175 for LG or $215 for Pioneer. Pioneer is better.

7. Next you will need a PCI-Express graphics card. For your games the minimum i would buy would be Gigabyte Nvidia 8400GS. I recommend Gigabyte Nvidia 9600GT 512MB.

8. You may want to buy a monitor, you can choose since its just a monitor.


You can choose any preheripals such as mouse and keuboard. Wireless mouse is recommend but theres no point for wireless keyboard unless you plan to sit a few meters away from the computer.

Once bought you can get the shop to buid it for you or you can buid it yourself.
When building yourself, make sure you wear a Electrostatic Discharge Wrist band to prevent damage. Or simply touch the metal of the case to get rid of the static. Do not touch any electrical compunet pins such as CPU pins and CPU socket Pins.

Once made you will need to install an operating system. You can buy one or Download a pirated version.

No boot, continuous Beep

I would take the CPU back out. Remove the excess thermal compound, you should only use a very thin layer. Make sure the CPU is oriented and seated properly.
