When I plug my camera in to my computer and bring up my ZoomBrower software it give me a message on my camera that says 'communication problem' I of course have misplaced my manual and need help. I also get a message while using the software that says can not detect camera, check connection and retry. This has never happened before.

Thanks

Laura

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

SOURCE: Computer not recognizing my camera when connected

Most of the issues can be solved by either reinstalling the software or by disconnecting and reconnecting the device.
In this case we can close in on three solutions
1) The USB drive in the system is not functioning. Try connecting any other USB devices to the same USB port and check whether it works or not. If the other device works well then it could be a problem with the data cable or with the port in the camera (usually firewire)

2) The data cable used to transfer data might have become faulty.Try using another data cable if possible and still the same issue continues then try connecting another camera to the system and if the other camera gets detected then the problem must be with the camera.

3) Try connecting the same camera to another system and see whether the camera gets detected. If no, then the port in the camera is defective.

After this we can close in on which could be faulty. data cable / Computer / Camera.

SOURCE: Canon zoombrowser Ex downloading problem

Communication error is what the G7 told me. It turned out to be: too many pictures too download! The Canon website suggested this as a problem and were right on. Using the continuous drive mode I had taken thousands of pictures and had to delete some to get it to download and it worked like a charm.

The sd1000 manual says that you will get this error when you have too many pictures on your memory card (aprox 1000). I am not sure how many I had on my 2GB card but it was a lot. I deleted about 50 - 100 pictures and then it started working again and the new pictures downloaded to the computer.

When I plug my camera into the USB and connect to my computer I have been getting a message that the scanner or camera is in use so it can't download my pictures. I have also seen a message asking me...

Here is the basic solution I usually give as a FIRST attempt to fix similar problems.

1. Make sure one end of the camera cord is plugged into your computer and restart your computer.
2. Make sure your camera is turned OFF. Once computer is restarted, then plug second end into the camera.
3. Turn the camera on. Wait and see what happens with the computer. If you still receive the message. Try steps 1 and 2 again. Step 3 would be to open the software that you usually use to download FIRST before turning the camera on.

If this does not fix the problem. You may need to reinstall the software you use for the camera...and try again.

Hope this helps!

This is a registry error. Try this: type regsvr32 quartz.dll in the run box on your computer. That would be: Click start, run, and then type this into the box.
If yoou do this correctly, you should see a message that it was registered correctly.
Try the program to see if it fixed the issue.

Canon zoombrowser Ex downloading problem

Try updating the Zoombrowser software.

If you have a connection to the camera, go into my computer and get images directly off the camera using scanner and camera wizard, microsoft's default program. This will at least allow you to transfer your images until you can resolve the software problem.

If you have no connection to the camera via your computer, you need to try some other troubleshooting steps to get a connection. I will post those below in the next post.
