Go to the singer website
Go to the home page
Go to customer service--click on it--it will show a small menu--click on instruction manual
In the box put the model number (example 117) & click search

try changing the needle--flat side goes to the back of machine
rethread the machine top & bobbin--make sure to use every thread guide
make sure bobbin is wound correctly & inserted correctly in the bobbin case
clean under the needle plate & in the bobbin area for lint or loose threads
if you don't have a manual try singer
Go to the singer website
Click on customer support--there will be a drop down menu
Choose instruction manual
In the box type the model number(example 758)
Click search

This may be way off left field, but I saw some Elgin manuals for old vintage machines on the Singer site. http://www.singerco.com/accessories/instruction-manuals Put Elgin in the search box if the number only does not work and scroll down to see what is there. I saw a 1015 model, maybe it will be close. Some manuals are free for download and others cost money. Otherwise do a web search for Relics or Tia Relics and ask if they have a manual that will sub for your machine if you cannot find it in her listings.

Singer now has White sewing machine manuals (see number prefix W) and White Serger manuals (see prefix WSL) along with Singer sewing machine and serger manuals and some odd ones that came from the merger.

Google Tias, relics and see if they have it. They usually have alot of old manual reprints that you can purchase

I would google tias, relics online and you will find that manual, they charge about $17-$21 for a nice copy. I have found many an old manual and technician book there

I've been looking high and low to see if I could find you one for free, but I can not.

You'll have to contact Singer to get a replacement instruction manual. They cost around $10.
