DVDs stuck in factory-installed 6-disc DVD movie player

I have a 2005 Chrysler Town & Country minivan.  4 DVDs are stuck in the changer and won't come out.  The dealer option is to replace the whole thing for $450 installed.  I am seeking solutions for me to try and/or companies that repair things like this (if any exist in the Washington DC area).

Wow, I could have written the same post, right down to the number of discs stuck in the player.  If replace is the only option, how do I retrieve the discs currently in the player?

Did you do anything like replace the battery before this started happening? We have the same symptom, and I'm wondering if replacing the battery caused it.

I have 3 DVDs stuck in my changer. It tries for a while to locate them before giving up and showing the message General DVDC Error. Sounds like a common fault!!

I have the same problem with my 2005 Chrysler Town and Country, factory installed DVD player. A disc is stuck in the multi-changer and I cannot add or remove any of the disc in the machine. My car battery died shortly before I noticed that the disc was stuck in the player. Is this a similarity for anyone else having the same problem?

I was able to get the DVDs out but I have not found a good source for a replacement changer. The issue is there are little "discs" in side that keep the DVD seperated on a spool that moves them up and down as you select the DVD you want. It seems that when one of these comes off the spool all kinds of hell break loose. I was able to get 3 of the 6 DVDs out without cracking open the changer.

Since my waranty just ran out 400 miles ago I figured I would get the others out myself. I put everything back to together but I am sure I don't everything aligned correctly and now the lights flash back and forth.

I am looking for a replacement on line but no luck yet.

Disclaimer: I am not a professional. This is an account of what I did to replace my DVD changer. If I had been offered the $450 installed option, I would have taken it.

According to the boys at Car Toys and the dealer, once these DVD changers go, they have to be replaced. The dealer quoted me $705, but I found one on E-bay from a highly rated seller for $400. I was able to pull out the DVD changer by popping off the trim betwee the DVD player and the cup holder, and then removing two screws. Note that it may help to remove the cup holder.

Once those two screws at the bottom are removed, it just takes a firm tug on console shell below the DVD player for the whole face of the console to come off. Disconnecting the airbag indicator connector will allow the console face to be pulled far enough away to get at the DVD changer. All connectors have a tab you need to press while pulling.

Two more screws need to be removed to get the DVD changer out. With those screws removed, another firm tug and wiggle will release the DVD changer. You'll probably hear a metal popping sound, which is just the rear grounding tab (I think that's what it is) pulling free from the cage.

Once you can reach the two wiring harnesses behind the DVD changer, pull on the wire bundle to give yourself some slack to work with, while not stressing the cable assemblies too much. Disconect the two connectors at the back of the DVD changer. At that point the DVD changer can be removed, and you can search on E-bay for the part number. My unit had a complete wiring diagram for the two connectors on the sticker, but I couldn't find anyone with the right connectors to install an aftermarket system.

I haven't received the new part yet, so I'm a little nervous about the correct order of connector installation. I'll probably pull the battery terminals while installing the new unit, but here is where you are on your own. Good luck.

I followed the instructions above which are right on. I was able to take off the top metal coverpate of the DVD player which is one screw. I than unscrewed the two screws on each side of the faceplate. I than took out the 5 or 6 small screws on the top secondary plate which than gave me access to the DVDs. I was able to recover the DVDs and now am out shopping for a replacement unit. If anybody knows of a compatible model that is in the secondary market that matches the connectors let me know. Thanks for posting this Jarrode!

I have the same problem - disc stuck in the 6-disk DVD/CD changer. Are there any good DIY solutions?

Interesting comment about changing the battery. My disk jam problem started when I was changing a battery cable. I now wonder if I have a jammed disk or electrical issue as the result of disconnect/reconnecting battery while system was turned on.

2005 chrysler town and country how to attach aftermarket dvd player to factory screen?

The best reply for this is to see a radio teck that fits wireless into cars as they have the gear , looms and connections and the know how to do the job without upsetting the ECM program. IT will be money well spent especially if you use an accredited radio technician.

Dvd stuck in mt 2007 chrysler town and country how do i get them out

It most probably was loaded into the DVD incorrectly. It will require the removal of the drive - not a hard job. It will suprise you in that the disc will actually be above the drive (just resting on top) not in it. The disc was angled up when it was put in. Be sure in the future to place it in straight and level.

My 6 disc DVD changer will not eject, nor play. The lights blink back and forth from the 3 left lights to the 3 right lights, whether the van is on or off. I disconnected the battery to reset it, but to no...

I'm having the same problem, although I didn't get the 3 left 3 right thing until I reinstalled the dvd changer to see if it worked. The Haynes manual for Chrysler Voyager & Town & Country 2003-2006 has the steps you'll need to remove it. Just refer to page 11-18, 11-19 for removing the instrument panel, then page 12-9 for 'radio' removal. If you can't get the manual let me know.

Disc stuck in factory installed DVD player

needs a new disc changer. Something is wrong internally. You will be able to get them back if you go to the dealership and get an exchange unit. They will send the discs back when they remanufacture the unit.
