a clip or retainer for the actuating rod has broken or popped off,you need to remove the door trim to get to it and that could be hard seeing you cant open the door but it can be done,fairly straight foward once the door trim is off

Most likely the connector on the airbag was rattled. You may need to access this and make sure its on tight. If this fails you may need to get it diagnosed. A code will further help in the direction you need to go.
Use caution as the air bag could deploy if you hit it hard enough.
To safely inspect the connector you will need to disconnect the battery for about a half hour before touching anything. This will allow the ABS module to discharge and prevent any accidental deployment.
Also be aware of any radio codes if nessasary before disconnecting the battery if needed. Also navigation could be lost if you have it.
