My dryer will start at times. But most of the time when the start button is pressed it will buzz for a few secs then nothing. Or you press the button and nothing at all...no sound.

Most probably a motor issue. If it sounds like a humming sound and the way you describe the issue it is a motor going bad.

SOURCE: An Old Gas Kenmore 7870701

Michael, here are a few things to check. Can you turn the drum by hand? If not you may have something in the blower wheel binding the motor. You can acess the blower by removing the back panel and removing the two screws under the vent screen on top. Once the back panel is removed the blower wheel will be behind the vent. Three or four screws and it's off. If the blower wheel is ok, it may be the motor itself going bad. Have someone hold the door switch down and while pressing start, give the drum a turn. If it starts running, it's probably a bad motor. Other things to look for is bad rollers. If they are bound up it may prevent the dryer from starting. Check these things out first...Catriver..post back.

SOURCE: dryer wont start when start button is pressed, but humming sound

I'd sure start by making sure the belt isn't broken. You can usually see the belt with a flashlight after accessing the panel (some are in front, others in the rear) - don't go probing around bare armed without unplugging the unit....

Make sure nothing is stuck in the blower wheel or the motor. Vacuum out all the lint, etc. If that doesn't work, time for a new motor.

AEG single oven - clock runs for 12 hrs , buzzes and goes back to 12 o'clock - if set timer and check time remaining, it buzzes and jumps to clock setting loosing time remaining. Buzzer sounds ''hoarse''.

you must setting the count down timer instead of time of day. to set time of day. press centre button 4 times lamp flashes in bottom righthand of display. use + and - to get correct time after 10 secs time will lock in. to check you have not set count down press centre button 3 times lamp flashes top right corner of display if not at 0000 use - button to get to 0000 leave 10 secs then should revert to time of day. also check you have not entered cooking time. press centre 1x this also should read 0000. hope this helps
