Hi Amanda Gonzales - If you would like to recover just the number for your product Key, it is usually located in the Registry of your computer. Product Key Finder is a free app that you can download and then look up the number. Then, copy down somewhere safe to have if you need to reinstall your copy of Windows. *This app will ask to install other programs, so be sure to just install the one you need. Hop this helps.
different laptops have different product key even if they're from the same model range. if you haven't formatted the drive, you can use a "product key backup" software provided that you can still log into windows to backup your activation info beforehand and restore this info after you finish with the formatting. otherwise, you will have to forward this issue to Microsoft. This article describes how to find the product key if you cannot locate it, or how to obtain a new product key if the product key label is damaged or is missing. If the product key label is damaged or missing and you have to replace the product key, go to the "How to replace a damaged or lost product key for a full version" section. If you have your product key and it is not working, contact Support at the following Microsoft Web site:
http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=support
The key usually is on a sticker/label on the PC itself. Otherwise if you lost it, I'm afraid there's nothing much we can do since we cannot prove to Microsoft that there really is a missing key, since there are plenty of people who will claim they lost there key in order to obtain one, even when they never owned one. You see what I'm saying here?
There's an option though. When Windows is installed it mostly has an option to register it a Microsoft. If you did you can call 'em and tell them to look op your registration. That'll prove you have legitimate copy of Windows.
You can contact them by clicking the Contact us link at the bottom of the Microsoft site's main page. [Contact Microsoft]
