From the Setup CD-ROM

Insert the Setup compact disc (CD) and restart the computer. If prompted, select any options required to boot from the CD.
2.
When the text-based part of Setup begins, follow the prompts; choose the repair or recover option by pressing R.
3.
If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot system, choose the installation that you need to access from the Recovery Console.
4.
When prompted, type the Administrator password.
5.
At the system prompt, type Recovery Console commands; type help for a list of commands, or helpcommandname for help on a specific command.
6.
To exit the Recovery Console and restart the computer, type exit.
If you have already installed the Recovery Console
1.
During Startup, select Recovery Console from the startup options menu.
2.
If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot system, choose the installation that you need to access from the Recovery Console.

You need to get an Windows Operating system XP
Option 1:
Boot from your CD and follow the directions to start Recovery Console. Then:
Attrib -H -R -S C:\Boot.ini
DEL C:\Boot.ini
BootCfg /Rebuild
Fixboot

Boot from your CD and follow the directions below to start Recovery Console.

Most likely you will need to expand the file from the CD. The command would be expand d:\i386\hal.dl_ c:\windows\system32\hal.dll. Substitute d: for the drive letter of your CD. Once you have expanded the file type "exit" to exit the Recovery Console and restart the computer.

hi there, here's the step by step procedure for reformatting.
1. insert the recovery disk first to your cd rom 2. restart pc and keep on tapping the F12 key 3. once you are prompted for boot options select your cd/dvd rom drive
your computer will now boot up from your cd rom and will initialize the setup.
try rebuilding the database and the file system in recovery consol
to get to the recovery consol press and hold the power button when ps3 is in standby mode(red light) till you hear a double beep. sometimes the ps3 does a beep then another beep and goes back into standby thsi is fine just release the power and quikly press and hold it again till you get double beep.
like on my 80g system it goes like this
ps3 standby...press hold power.......beep .........beep........stanby again....release and hold power again.......beep .........double beep...release power now you should be in recovery menu.

You will need to launch Windows XP Recovery Console..here are your to options you have to perform this to correct your boot issue..
Option 1: If you have already installed the Recovery Console

BOOT FROM YOUR WINDOWS DISC AND CHOSE OPTION RECOVERY CONSOLE AND USE THE GUIDED HELP...BUT FIRST DOWNLOAD THE MISSING FILE AND COPY IT TO WINDOWS 32 SYSTEM FILE FOLDER.RICHARDM69
Boot into the recovery console and run;
chkdsk /r
Note the space between dsk and /r.
If you are unsure of how to get into the recovery console, and have access to a Windows CD;
1. Boot the computer with the Windows CD
2. Select the option to enter the recovery console
3. At the prompt, type CHKDSK /R and press enter (this may take a while).
If you do not have access to a Windows CD, but DO have access to a working system with a CD-R or CD/RW, download the XP Recovery Console CD ISO* and burn it to CD using DeepBurner (or whichever application you have that supports such (DeepBurner, Nero, MagicISO etc)).

* This CD ISO will load pretty much the same as the XP installation program but will NOT provide installation options, ONLY the recovery console. This can be used regardless of whether you are using 2000, XP, 2003 or Vista.
