When I switch from 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive, it doesn't engage what could be the problem ? might it be as simple as a bad fuse ?

It could be, polaris uses an electronically controlled lock in hub. broken wires or bad switch also.

Could just be burnt out they work like a magnet and if not kept clean they will look on and stay on or not lock at all. The main thing is to keep oil in the front hubs

I purchased a used 2005 ATV Arctic Cat 400. It has a switch to engage the 4 wheel drive but it does not work. What might be the problem? Thanks

Try bypassing the switch.. if that works,, its the switch..
..just an old method...
If the switch has two wires, disconnect the switch and see if it will go into 4WD.. if nothing happened.. then jump the two wires and see if it goes into 4WD...

If not..repost with more details about the switch.

How to test my 4 wheel drive electricals

On my 4 wheeler if I raise the front wheels off the ground and with the 4 wheel drive engaged you should not be able to turn the front tires two revolutions. You need to be more specific as to what you are trying to do because there are other electrical things that can be checked. Like if the 4 wheel drive will not engage. Previous test is only to see if the front end is engaged in 4 wheel drive.

No 4 wheel drive/where to start looking for problem

Sounds like the switch or a relay since the front is not engaging.

4 wheel drive locks in one side one side will not some times makes a sound to if 2 sides are in

Model? If you put it in regular 4WD it will usually only spin one tire. If you have diff lock and use it, it locks both front wheels but can be hard on front end parts. The front end will do some clanking and popping because it doesn\'t really like diff lock.
