That depends on the type of the SanDisk product.
SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.
Memory Sticks have a switch along one side. One position is marked "LOCK", the other position unlocks the card.
MicroSD adapters have a slide switch, just like SD cards.
