Epson c42ux cartidge stuck, won't feed

The printer was working fine until i changed the black ink cartridge. now the ink cartridges move in short jerks to the left until they hit the end and start banging, then go back to the right. when i turn on the printer the cartridges move a little bit but don't reset themselves. Also the paper only feeds the first inch or two and then stops. Any idea what to do? I just bought a new ink so I don't want to trash my printer.

Can you explain the behaviour more clearly - you say for example that the printhead bangs on the left, yet when you switch on it only moves a little, and that the paper feeds the first inch or two then stops - it shouldn't feed at all when you switch on.

Can you start with a description of what happens when you switch on. What movement of print head and paper takes place, and when this initial movement stops, what lights are lit or flashing. Can you then give the same information when you try to print a page.

Epson workforce 520 won't recognise ink cartidges

When replacing ink on the Epson Workforce 520, Ensure the cartridges have the correct/same number of gold contacts. Ive seen them with 7 and 9 gold square contacts and they were otherwise identical, and the ones with 9 contacts threw an "cartridge not recognized" error on the printer's dispay.

Our printers epson c42ux red light is on stand still

A permanently on red light can mean several things. If the green light is also ON, it means that you heve no paper loaded, an empty or faulty ink cartridge, or a jammed paper feed. I presume you have loaded paper. You say you have changed the ink cartridges. Note that BOTH cartridges must have ink for the printer to work. The simplest way to check this, or to check for a faulty cartridge, is to try another new set of cartridges - compatible cartridges are very cheap on EBay - about £3 a set in the UK.

To check for jammed paper, remove the paper from the sheet feeder and look carefully inside it, and inside the printer (lift the lid) for scraps of jammed paper. Remove any you see. Press the ink/paper feed button and see if it goes through a paper feed cycle. Reinsert the paper and try it again. If it works, turn the printer off and on again, and it should now be OK.

If the green light is OFF, it means you have a Carriage problem, i.e. something is fouling the print head when it tries to go from side to side. Check this with manual movement. Turn the printer off. After a few seconds, turn it back on again. As soon as the print head moves, pull the power cord out of the back of the printer. You should now be able to move the print head across to the left side (gently!) by hand, then move it back to the right and see if it will go fully into its parking bay at the right hand end. You should be able to tell if someting is hindering its movement anywhere.

Please report back with a new comment if none of this solves the problem.

Why won't my CX9400F recognize Epson ink cartridges

The Epson CX9400F printer seems to require replacement of all the color ink cartridges, even if only the Black is empty.

I print almost exclusively in Black, but with my first change of Black, I was forced to change all the color. At the time I thought Epson did not provide completely filled color ink cartridges.

Just yesterday, I replaced Black and the printer complained it did not recognize the rest of color cartridges. So I replaced all the other color ink cartridges and now it works fine.

You might want to check out www.clickinks.com for cheaper, mail order alternatives which are Epson ink compatible, if you are not in a hurry.

Epson CX7450 Black Ink Won't Work...

I was having the same problem. This fixed it:

Lift up the scanner bed (top part) of the printer to expose the cartridges.

Push the red triangle button once. Wait for the cartridge carrier to move to the middle. On the housing of the printer (the non-moving part), there is an arrow that will point to the empty cartridge.

Push the red triangle button again to see if the next cartridge is empty. Repeat this step, noting which cartridges are empty, until the cartridge carrier moves to the right. Now you can replace each cartridge that is empty.

After replacing the empty cartridges, push the red triangle button again, and the carrier will begin moving back and forth (cleaning itself). Once it stops, it should be positioned on the far right side.

Lower the scanner bed to "close" the printer. The ink light should go off and you should be able to print.

My epson d88 printer has 2 flashing lights, the ink charge and paper feed lights. this is preventing me printing out. this happened after i tried to change my inks. can anybody help?

I just had the same problem. Try opening the top flap on the printer and see if you can click the lid down on the ink cartridge box more firmly (until it clicks) - i had to force the cartridges to the left slightly to do this, although I'm not sure if thats neccessary. Then i pushed the cartidge box back to the right where it was before. The 2 red lights still flashed for me, but when i turned the printer off and on again it worked just fine. I hope this helps.

Replace ink cartridge

The Reference Manual provides clear instructions on this in the "How to" section. If you don't have a copy, download it from:

After cartridge change, the printer will not work

you might not like it, but here it is, it is the truth

Epson ink jet printers require all of the ink cartridges to have ink in them in order to print any color, black and white, or grayscale images. Epson printers contain a permanent print head that needs to be charged with all colors to work. Even when users are printing black text only, a small amount of color ink is used to keep the print head charged for color printing and prevent air bubbles from entering the color print nozzles which can damage the print head. Therefore, once one of the cartridges are expended, the printer signals you to replace the cartridge in order for printing to continue.

Printer cartridges

Hi:

I solved this problem; there was a white plastic "piece" stuck upwards and all I did was push it back down. Now the cartridges are able to go all the way to the right and the printer is working properly. Looks like I need to replace the cartridges now, that's all.

Thanks.
